It's also important to make sure you take care of your car in these cold temperatures. Some tips?

Check your tire pressure. When it gets colder the pressure in your tires goes down and can cause a flat... Also make sure you have decent tread on your tires, or better yet, snow tires. Check your antifreeze temperatures so that parts under your hood are warm enough to work. And if you're unfortunate enough to break down in these freezing temperatures...

"Call 911 and get somebody to come to you. Don't try to walk in this weather. It's too cold to walk, you'll just get frostbite and have problems. It's much better to stay in the car, have the engine running, keep the car warm," said Dan Whittaker, owner of Meineke.

If you are planning to travel, make sure you have supplies in your car in case you do break down. A blanket, water, snacks, and warm clothing can make a real difference if you end up stranded.
