In an effort to curb accidents and road deaths - there are no working traffic lights and last year more than 380 fatalities occurred in 2,204 reported accidents - the West African country of Sierra Leone is adding a requirement to the process of earning a driver's license: drivers-to-be must play a board game before they take their driving test, Mirror reports.

No, it's not just any board game. It's The Driver's Way, which uses the country's road laws as source material and plays like Monopoly. Players roll traffic-light themed die and move little model cars around the board, encountering "vehicle tests" and road-law questions along the way.

People preparing to take the actual driver's license test must buy the game, which is made in India, for 60,000 Leones (almost $14). Three-thousand copies reportedly have already been imported.

Sarah Bendu, executive director of Sierra Leone's Road Transport Authority, says, after buying the game, "Then they will play it for two or three months, or maybe just one if they're smart enough, then they will come for their test."

Morie Lenghor, assistant inspector general of the police - and the game's creator - thinks the game will improve conditions on the road. "Most crashes here are a result of ignorance of the highway code. And most drivers don't even understand half the road signs."

Subaru Levorg

When I was a kid I went with my family to a Subaru dealership. My brother, being clever as he is, pointed out that Subaru backwards spelled "you're a bus." The portly salesman was not amused, and we bought a Passat instead. Fast forward a couple of decades and we can't help but wonder if Subaru wasn't thinking the same thing when it named its new concept Levorg, which spells "grovel" backwards. The company itself says the name is a combination of the words "Legacy," "Revolution" and "Touring," but one way or another, that's what they're calling it, and here are the first preview images and details on the concept which Fuji Heavy will unveil at the Tokyo Motor Show this year.

Designed to combine the feel of a sports car with the practicality of a touring car, the Levorg looks set to preview the next step in a long line of performance-oriented Subaru wagons. It packs a 1.6-liter turbocharged boxer four and next-generation EyeSight technologies in what looks to be a svelte yet muscular form that could point the way forward for the next Legacy.

The Levorg, however, is not the only concept which Subaru will reveal in Tokyo this year. The Japanese automaker has also revealed plans to unveil the Cross Sport Design Concept (which could preview the replacement for the discontinued Tribeca), the Crossover 7 Concept (which looks like a taller version of the Legacy wagon with an apparent third row of seats), and an Evolution version of the Viziv concept presented in Geneva earlier this year. 2015 Ford Mustang on the cover of Car and Driver

Few upcoming debuts have been as eagerly anticipated as the all-new Ford Mustang that's expected to debut shortly as the Mustang's 50th anniversary year approaches. Well, Car and Driver magazine would have us wait no longer as it claims to be leaking Ford's new global pony car early.

Of course what you're looking at is just as likely to be a composite rendering based on what C/D projects the new Mustang to look like, but to our eyes it looks spot on. Combining design traits from the Evos Concept with classic Mustang signatures and Ford's Aston-inspired grille treatment, C/D's images â€" including a complete 360-degree digital navigator â€" show a Mustang not only for the modern era, but also for global distribution, taking a quintessentially American car to markets its predecessors were never designed for.

Those global considerations are expected to spell the demise of the outgoing Mustang's holdout live rear axle in favor of an independent suspension, and a slight constricting of the exterior dimensions. And thanks to a separate leak, coming from a digital survey, we have apparent confirmation of what will power the new pony car. While the existing 3.7-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8 engines will apparently carry over with only slight adjustments in output, the survey confirms a new 2.4-liter turbo four will be positioned in between them, offering slightly more power than the V6 but markedly improved fuel economy for a manageable $560 premium over base.

Car and Driver reports that Ford could replace the base V6 with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost from the Taurus SHO, slot the current supercharged 5.8 into the new GT500 and an all-new twin-turbo V8 into a new GT350. The successor to the Boss 302, however, could go with the new engine or stick with the previous one. We'll have to wait a little longer, but hopefully not much, to see how this all plays out. 2012 Jeep Liberty

The Jeep Liberty has already had plenty of attention for possible fires thanks to the first-gen model's fuel tank, but now the midsize Jeep is under the microscope of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for another fire-related concern. NHTSA has opened an investigation for the 2012 Liberty after receiving two reports of electrical fires in the driver's door.

According to the investigation summary, around 80,000 vehicles could potentially be affected by this problem. In both reported fires, the drivers noticed smoke and then flames from the master power window switch, and they had to pull to a stop and exit through the passenger side of the SUV. According to Autoguide, there was one injury to a motorist who suffered burned fingers while trying to open the driver's door.

Interestingly, the Dodge Nitro is not yet involved in this investigation, even though it was still around for the 2012 model year; the Nitro ended production in 2011 about a year before the final Liberty rolled off the line for the 2013 model year. SUMMARY:
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received two reports from consumers alleging the driver's door caught fire in the area of the driver's master power window switch (MPWS). The consumers report a burning odor and smoke coming from the driver's door followed by visible flames. In both instances, the driver had to stop the vehicle and exit through the passenger side to egress the vehicle. In addition to the fire, consumers reported erratic function of the windows and door locks resulting in them activating on their own while the fire was occurring. According to a complainant, one of the vehicles caught fire a second time after it was repaired. Both incidents resulted in disablement of the vehicle that required towing. NHTSA is opening this investigation to evaluate the scope, frequency, and consequence of the alleged defect. 2014 Jeep Cherokee ad screen shot

Now that the 2014 Cherokee is finally on its way to dealerships, Jeep is starting its marketing blitz for its new crossover, beginning with this 60-second TV spot, called Built Free, that premieres today. Set to a Bob Dylan recording--"Motherless Children," 1962--the ad spot discusses something we can all relate to â€" the feeling of being too busy and too cooped up with everyday tasks to really get out there and explore the world. But as Jeep says in the commercial, "You're still here. And you're still you. The horizons haven't gone anywhere."

Autoblog spoke to Kim Adams-House, head of marketing for the Jeep brand, who explained that this Built Free spot is "an anthemic piece" that "sparks the conversation" for the new Cherokee. As you'll notice, none of the new Jeep's features â€" its off-road systems, nine-speed automatic transmission, etc. â€" are mentioned in the ad, but Adams-House says that future marketing "will speak to more" of the CUV's highlights. Following this 60-second spot, 30-second commercials will launch that talk about some of the specific product features.

When asked if the Built Free campaign will include any throwbacks to the original Cherokee, Adams-House told Autoblog that while "we love that vehicle," the new spots are intended to carve out "a unique space for Cherokee in our product portfolio and marketplace." On that same note, don't expect any other Jeep vehicles to get the Built Free treatment. Adams-House said that while this ad "does resonate overall with the brand," it is solely intended to promote the new Cherokee.

Built Free will not just be limited to television, though â€" it will be a 360-degree campaign with specific marketing designed for print and digital use, as well as an exclusive 60-second cinema spot that launches on November 29 in conjunction with the upcoming Ben Stiller movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

2005 Toyota Camry

A jury has decided that faulty software was to blame for a crash involving a 2005 Toyota Camry that killed one woman and injured another. This is the first time Toyota has been found liable by a jury in a lawsuit involving sudden acceleration claims. Toyota has maintained that driver error is the most likely cause for cases of sudden acceleration.

Shortly after the jury in the case, which took place in Oklahoma and centered around a crash that injured 76-year-old Jean Bookout and killed her passenger, Barbara Schwarz, reached a verdict that would see Toyota paying $3 million in compensatory damages, a confidential settlement was reached. The jury, which had found Toyota liable for "reckless disregard" for public safety, had yet to decide what punitive damages Toyota would face.

Toyota said in a statement, "While we strongly disagree with the verdict, we are satisfied that the parties reached a mutually acceptable agreement to settle this case. We will continue to defend our products vigorously at trial in other legal venues."

This verdict could have widespread implications for several more cases that have yet to be heard in court where lawyers are expected to argue that software was to blame for sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles. These cases fall into a different legal category than the ones Toyota settled for $1.4 billion earlier this year. Toyota's brief statement can be found below.

2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid

Nissan has announced pricing for the 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid, which was revealed earlier this year at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Offering two- or all-wheel drive, the hybridized crossover sports a 3.5-liter V6 and a 15-kilowatt electric motor, for a total of 250 system horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers match up well with the 260 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque put out by the V6-powered Pathfinder. Naturally, fuel economy sees a hefty boost, to 25 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, bumps of five and two mpg, respectively.

The Pathfinder Hybrid is available in three grades. Prices start at $35,100 for an SV and jump to $38,050 for the mid-level SL. A top-flight Platinum, meanwhile, moves the price up to $42,750. Adding all-wheel drive to the package bumps the price up to $1,600 across the range, and keep in mind that these prices don't include Nissan's $860 destination charge. Nissan Announces 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid U.S. Pricing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. â€" Nissan today announced U.S. pricing for the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, which is on sale now at U.S. Nissan dealers nationwide. The new Pathfinder Hybrid joins the Pathfinder 3.5-liter model in the expanded 2014 lineup, bringing the available model configurations to 14 â€" allowing buyers to select the perfect combination of powerplant, 4-wheel or 2-wheel drive, features and equipment to fit their family needs and budget.

The Pathfinder Hybrid starts with a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price* (MSRP) of $35,110 USD for the SV 2WD Hybrid model, versus a starting price of $32,110 USD for a comparably equipped SV 2WD 3.5-liter V6 model.

At the heart of the new 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid is a supercharged 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor paired to a compact Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. Just like it did when introducing the CLA-Class, Mercedes-Benz will launch the closely related GLA-Class crossover with a limited run of Edition 1 models. Available for customers to order starting later next month and running for a year, the GLA-Class Edition 1 brings exclusive styling and luxury to this all-new subcompact crossover.

On the outside, the Edition 1 is given plenty of blacked-out elements including the mirrors, window trim and the headlights, as well as the 19-inch AMG-style wheels. What's more, this special model will only be offered in five paint colors. The interior only comes with brown leather seats featuring a beige fabric insert, and the Edition 1 also adds a flat-bottom, three-spoke steering wheel, stainless steel sport pedals and aluminum trim on the instrument panel.

Following the successful world premiere of the Mercedes-Benz GLA at the IAA in Frankfurt, many customers are already eagerly anticipating the launch of the new compact SUV from Mercedes-Benz. Now the anticipation is being cranked up a notch to an even higher level. This is because at the time of the market launch in March 2014 there will also be an exclusive Edition 1 variant. It will be available to order from the end of November for approximately one year after market launch.

Anyone who has ever bought a new car knows that the base price is just that: the base price. Start checking off boxes on the options list and the price will quickly skyrocket. And if that's true of ordinary cars that people like us would buy, it's that much more so with six- and seven-figure exotics.

Take the Pagani Huayra, for example. If you've got the million bucks it takes to put one in your driveway, you'll probably take whichever one you can get your hands on, however it came from the factory. But if you're lucky (and patient) enough to get to the front of the waiting list to order one just the way you want it, you'll find all sorts of optional extras that will leave the million-euro "base price" behind in typical Pagani style.

According to a price list apparently acquired by The Supercar Kids, buyers of a new Huayra are faced with such choices as a €15k set of fitted luggage, a €5k rearview camera and an €8k leather upgrade â€" as if the "standard" leather trim in a Pagani would disappoint even the most discerning multi-millionaire. Want to see the bodywork in exposed carbon fiber? That'll set you back
an extra (deep breath now) €112,500. That's enough to buy a new Maserati GranTurismo, for crying out loud!

ABT Sportsline will debut its Audi A6-based AS6 at SEMA.

ABT Sportsline, known as ABT Tuning from its founding in 1967 until 1991, is a German aftermarket parts and tuning company that has focused on enhancing Volkswagens and Audis since the VW GTI bowed in 1978 (in Europe, at least) and races competitively in DTM (Germany's touring car racing series). The company has kept its roots in Europe for all of these years, but will debut the AS6, based on the Audi A6, at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) in a couple weeks before opening up shop in Los Angeles in early 2014.

ABT focused on making the AS6 a balanced package by increasing engine output, tuning the suspension, giving it understated style and improving the brakes. Details are light, but the AS6's 3.0-liter diesel V6 makes 286 horsepower, a 41-hp increase over stock. Not paying attention yet? Torque jumps from 369 pound-feet to 500 lb-ft, endowing the Audi with a lot of much-appreciated low-rpm grunt. The springs are swapped out for a set of ABT units, and the body kit adds front and rear spoilers, side and rear skirts and carbon-fiber mirror covers. ABT's ER-C 20-inch wheels fit over new brakes.

BAVARIAN POWER AT THE SEMA AND SOON AT ABT SPORTSLINE USA AS WELL

At the beginning of 2014, ABT Sportsline, the globally largest tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group, will launch its own subsidiary at Cerritos/Los Angeles. Before the traditional company will open it, however, the ABT power can already be felt live in November at the Las Vegas' SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show. ABT Sportsline is going to present a both visually and technically tuned Audi A6 sedan. "We look forward to being part of the SEMA's 50th anniversary 'party'. With the ABT AS6, the more than 100,000 trade visitors at one of the globally most successful automotive fairs can see a perfect, detailed and dynamic total package", says Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of ABT Sportsline.

The popular Audi A6 and its predecessor, the Audi 100, have long since been mandatory tuning subjects of this traditional and innovative company. They do not only focus upon a sporty look but also on a new power upgrade to be presented at the SEMA in the ABT AS6. "ABT-powered", the standard 245hp (180 kW) of the 3.0 TDI quattro is increased to 286hp (210 kW), at a torque of 678Nm (serial version: 580Nm). And in combination with the ABT suspension springs, this extra potential can indeed be fully utilised. It's all highly enjoyable and very useful. Sporty dynamism does also mean, however, that a car can be stopped at any moment, here with the ABT brake system, which provides ideal deceleration values in any situation.

And you do not only feel the ABT power, you can also see it in this assertive ABT AS6. The ABT front spoiler sort of lowers the car's CoG at least visually; fender inserts and side skirts and the carbonfiber mirror covers underscore the athletic design and reveal at first glance what drivers can expect. The rear end is also accentuated by the ABT rear spoiler in combination with the ABT rear skirt kit (incl. tail pipe covers).

And the light and sporty design of the cast 20-inch ABT ER-C premium sport-type wheels are a further highlight, which rounds off the sedan in a perfect fashion. With the ABT AS6, ABT Sportsline combines all these elements in a consistent total tuning package that makes it fun to drive and look at.

2013 Nissan Pathfinder

2013 Infiniti JX35Nissan will be recalling over 151,000 vehicles due to issues with the anti-lock braking systems. On rough roads, light braking in the Nissan Pathfinder, Infiniti JX35 and QX60 could trigger a problem in the brake pressure output software that might lead to longer stopping distances than expected relative to the brake inputs. Needless to say, unpredictable stopping distances on rough roads is not a desirable trait in a three-row, family friendly CUV.

The recall covers all 2013 and 2014 Nissan Pathfinders built between April 18, 2012 and September 20, 2013, some 100,682 vehicles. Another 52,629 2013 to 2014 Infiniti JX35/QX60s built between September 15, 2011 and September 20, 2013 are also part of the notice.

Nissan will request that owners of affected vehicles report to dealers for a free software update to address the problem. Scroll down for the official notification from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In the affected vehicles, during light braking on rough roads, the antilock brake system (ABS) brake pressure output software may lead to an increase in stopping distance.

CONSEQUENCE:

The increased stopping distance may increase the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the ABS, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

Preparing to celebrate its 50th birthday, the Ford Mustang has seen a lot of vehicle trends come and go, and this especially goes for paint colors. Using historical production data, Ford has managed to create an infographic dating back to 1967 that breaks down the three top Mustang colors for each year as well as calling out some of the more interesting trends and colors over the years.

Over its five generations, the Mustang has been offered in a seemingly endless rainbow â€" from Playboy Pink in '67 and color-changing Mystichrome on the 2004 Cobra â€" but the most popular has always been red, which is the color of choice for 21 percent of all Mustangs ever made. Almost every year since 1967, red has been among the top three colors for the Mustang, but other popular colors have included blue, white, brown and, most recently, black. There are even websites and registries available for people owning certain-color Mustangs.

As the all-new 2015 Mustang gets ready for its debut later this year, there's no telling what kind of exciting and/or wacky colors Ford has in store. The world has changed dramatically in the past 50 years and the favored color choices of Ford Mustang drivers have shifted as well. As television transitioned from black-and-white to color, Mustang reflected the incoming fashion trends with a palate of vibrant colors.

In the five decades since, color shifts to more muted browns and yellows and back to today's bolder hues have given Mustang a different tint from many other cars.

While the best-selling vehicle color in the U.S. today is white, Mustang bucks the trend; just a mere 10 percent of Mustangs sold today are white.

Currently, black is the best-selling Mustang exterior paint color, up 10 percent over the last decade to account for 28 percent of all 2013 Mustangs sold. By comparison, only about 1.5 percent of customers between 1967 and 1973 went for black Mustangs according to historical production data provided by Marti Auto Works, the licensed supplier of Ford Motor Company production records.

On the other hand, red which has always been a popular color for sports cars, accounts for nearly 21 percent of all Mustangs ever sold. One of the most traditional colors â€" it owned just over 10 percent of total Mustangs sold in 1967 â€" red Mustangs account for approximately 22 percent of all Mustang sales over the last decade.

Blue has made a comeback recently, after dominating the early years of Mustang, reaching a peak of 30 percent of all cars in 1968 when six different shades were offered. The availability of eye-catching shades like Grabber Blue and Kona Blue have helped that primary color capture as much as 23 percent of sales in recent years.

Other early favorites such as green, yellow and brown have largely faded away in the 21st century. Green and yellow have mostly been found on limited edition Mustangs like the Bullitt and Boss 302 while the last brown Mustangs were built in 1989.

In addition to the typical color palate, Mustang has been offered in a variety of specialty shades ranging from hot Playboy Pink in 1967 to color-shifting Mystichrome on the 2004 SVT Cobra to today's Gotta Have It Green. As a vehicle that first prided itself as "the car designed to be designed by you," Mustang has offered customers their pick of colors, packages and special editions to make Mustang their own.

"Our Mustang owners are passionate about their cars, and the exterior paint color they choose invokes an emotional response to the vehicle," said Melanie Banker, Ford Mustang marketing manager. "Mustang owners buy a vehicle in School Bus Yellow or Grabber Blue because it reflects what they want their Mustang to say to the world about them."

The passion that surrounds the Mustang brand and customer is punctuated by the color that wraps the exterior of the vehicle. For some owners, the Mustang paint color runs deeper than the paint on the shell of the vehicle â€" it helps create a bond between fellow Mustang owners who share the same passion for their cars.

The Yellow Mustang Registry is dedicated to the owners and enthusiasts of yellow Mustangs. Founded in 2001, the registry has more than 8,932 members and 8,984 registered vehicles worldwide, and has hosted more than 60 events since its founding. The yellow Mustangs in the registry range from early Springtime Yellow, offered 1965-66, to Zinc Yellow, introduced in 2000.

Similarly, AllRedMustangs.com devoted to "Ford Mustangs 1964-present â€" as long as it's red," has more than 1,300 members across 14 countries.

Maria De Villota

We were saddened to report the other day on the untimely death of Maria De Villota, an aspiring Formula One racing driver who was found dead on Friday in her hotel room in Seville, Spain. At the time the circumstances of her passing were unknown, but reports now indicate that officials have ruled out any foul play, linking her death with the injuries she sustained in the July 2012 crash that took her right eye.

The daughter of former F1 driver Emilio De Villota, Maria had embarked upon a promising racing career in her own right. She had competed in a variety of European formula feeder series from Spanish F3 to Superleague Formula as well as some tin-top racing in the World Touring Car Championship, Italian Superstars and Grand-Am. But her goal was to make it into F1.

In 2011 she tested for the Lotus-Renault team and then signed on as official test driver for the Marussia team. While performing those duties at the Duxford Aerodrome last year, she collided with a truck and sustained severe neurological damage. Those injuries sidelined her racing career and shifted her focus to charitable pursuits. She was reportedly in Seville to launch her autobiography when those injuries finally caught up with her to take her life.

Her fellow F1 drivers pledged to take a moment of silence in her memory at this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, and the family â€" to whom we extend our deepest sympathies â€" was reportedly planning a private funeral. Whether they find cause take any manner of recourse against the Marussia team, however, remains to be seen.

Lauren Carter gets her new 2014 Mazda3

When Lauren Carter of Glen Ellyn, IL was in the market for her first car, she went for a Mazda3. Not a bad choice, but not necessarily remarkable on the surface. After all, Mazda sold 123,361 of them here last year alone. What she didn't know was that the car she bought was the 10 millionth Mazda had sold in the US over the course of its 43-year history here, since selling its first rotary-powered R100 here in 1970.

Rather than let the occasion pass with nothing more than a press release (like the one below), Mazda gave Lauren a brand-new 2014 Mazda3 to replace the 2013 model she had bought. Which is a nice gesture, of course, but also enables Mazda to hold on to the landmark 10,000,000th car in its heritage collection.

With notoriously bad traffic and pollution, Shanghai may institute a congestion charge, similar to what's been seen in London and Singapore (and considered in San Francisco). The gist of congestion charging is that drivers are charged a small amount for entering a certain part of the city - in the UK, entering central London between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, costs drivers 10 pounds ($16.16).

But where London might have instituted the standards in a bid to cut down on traffic, Shanghai's ultimate goal is to curb its woeful pollution, particularly something called PM2.5, a dangerous type of particulate matter emitted by vehicles. The city is aiming to cut PM2.5 levels by 20 percent in 2017. "Vehicles are a big reason behind the increase in PM2.5 and pollution levels and this is an area of a lot of public concern. Heavy polluting vehicles is an area where we will strongly control," Gao Yiyi, of the Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority, said at a departmental briefing, according to Bloomberg.

Shanghai will be the first city in China to institute a congestion charge. It was also the first city in the communist country to limit the number of new vehicles sold, via a license plate auction. While these may be small steps to curb the rampant pollution in Chinese cities, much of which can be attributed to the widespread burning of coal, here's hoping this move has a positive impact.

Racing championships around the world are being decided this time of year, and the latest to enter the history books is the IndyCar Series. The 2013 championship wrapped up this weekend with the MAVTV 500 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, where Penske's Australian ace Will Power won his third race of the season after 28 lead changes over the course of the race. But it was Scott Dixon who took home the championship.

Dixon needed to finish only fifth in the race in order to fend off the advances of his nearest rival, Helio Castroneves, who has won the Indy 500 three times but has yet to take the series title. French driver and former ALMS champion Simon Pagenaud finished third in the standings, followed by race winner Will Power, Marco Andretti, Justin Wilson, Ryan Hunter-Reay, James Hinchcliffe (who switches to Andretti Autosport next season), Charlie Kimball and Dario Franchitti, who had to sit out the final race following his crash in Houston. Alex Tagiliani took his place but finished only 14th in this final race of the season.

The title is Scott Dixon's third in the IndyCar Series, joining his solitary Indy 500 win in 2008. Dixon drives for Chip Ganassi Racing, which counts this as its fifth IndyCar championship, racked up over the course of just six years and interrupted only by Andretti driver Ryan Hunter-Reay's title last year. The team has also won top honors in Champ Cars and Grand-Am as well. Ganassi switches to Chevy power next season after years with Honda.

DIXON CAPTURES THIRD IZOD INDYCAR SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2013) â€" A crazy IZOD IndyCar Series season ended with an even crazier finish as Scott Dixon captured the third series championship of his career.

Dixon needed to finish fifth or better to win the championship and that's exactly what he did in the MAVTV 500 on Saturday night at Auto Club Speedway, ultimately holding off Team Penske's Helio Castroneves by 27 points. Castroneves trailed by 25 points entering the race in a bid for his first season championship, but he fell off the pace near the end of the race and ended with a broken front wing and finished a lap down and in sixth place.

Will Power led the 500-mile race for 103 laps and captured the victory, surviving the 2-mile oval in a war of attrition as most of the field did not finish the race due to crashes or mechanical issues. Power finished the 2013 INDYCAR season on a high note, notching three victories in the final five races.

"It was a crazy day," said Dixon, who also added titles in 2003 and 2008 for Target Chip Ganassi Racing. "I still can't believe that we've actually won the championship."

The race featured 28 lead changes and 11 different leaders.

"This is the most satisfying win I've ever had in my career," said Power, who won three races in 2013 and now has a total of 20 for his career. "I'm so stoked and so excited about the win."

Said Castroneves: "What can you do? We did a helluva job tonight. Usually the end of races are calm. There was nothing calm about tonight."

Dixon wanted to be sure to thank teammate and 2005 ACS winner Dario Franchitti, who missed the race as he is recovering from an Oct. 6 crash in Houston in which he broke his back, right ankle and suffered a concussion.

"I owe a lot of this to you, Dario," Dixon said. "It's been a crazy year and I'm just hoping you get well soon."

Sage Karam captured the Firestone Indy Lights Series Championship, and Carlos Munoz repeated his Fontana race win in the Lefty's Kids Club 100. Karam's title is Sam Schmidt's fourth consecutive and seventh overall in Indy Lights.

Almost immediately after the final C6 Corvette rolled off the line in Bowling Green, Kentucky, demolition began on the factory floor. Since then, for both the safety of the public and secrecy about the Corvette Stingray, Chevrolet has placed public tours of the plant on hold.

Now, more than a year later, 17 Stingrays roll out the door every hour and Corvette fans are again invited to visit what plant officials call a "magical" place. Beginning October 14, $7 will get you access to this facility that just underwent a $131 million renovation. We visited the plant recently and can say it's well worth the price of admission. Only three tours are given each weekday, and reservations are highly recommended.

Interesting things to watch for on the tour include a leak test where just-built Corvettes are subjected to a 12-gallon-a-second shower, rare Lime Rock Green Corvettes going down the line and the occasional leftover signage from the days when the plant also built the Cadillac XLR. Ask nicely and you just might be allowed to start a new Corvette for its very first time â€" we did.

China is the house that every robber baron is trying to break into. PSA Peugeot Citroën has been in-country since the early eighties, getting there with Volkswagen, but the French brand largely spent its time sniffing the plum blossoms while the German brand grabbed the dragon and tamed it. No more: PSA expects China to be its largest market by 2015, and it has spent more than a year rearranging its affairs to make a cohesive push for Chinese hearts and minds and renminbi.

After rationalizing its business operations there, Peugeot will move its wares upmarket to put space between it and Citroën, the Citroën DS line will be a standalone brand - the only place in the world where that will be the case â€" and according to a report in Businessweek both brands will heavily promote their association with French luxury by giving away wine and perfume to those who visit dealerships.

France, as the number one destination for Chinese tourists, does have a strong pull for the locals. But those visitors are interested in France mainly because of brands like Louboutin and Louis Vuitton, so it will take time and serious investment to find out if "premium mainstream" and "near-premium" brands can truly form a consumer bond with some of the definitive marques for sybarites.

At least the investment part isn't in question: PSA has outspent its German rivals for ad time on Chinese television, built a flagship DS World Boutique in Shanghai, will have its third plant ready to produce vehicles by the end of the year and plans to increase its dealer network coverage between the three brands from 65 percent of the country to 85 percent by 2015.

Sexy or vulgar â€" whatever you thought of the Veneno which Lamborghini unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this past March, it didn't much matter. Because by the time we saw it, all three examples were already bought and paid for... at the equivalent of $3.9 million each. But if you had that much cash burning a hole in your pocket and lamented missing out on the opportunity to put one in your driveway, we've got good news, because Lamborghini has just confirmed another nine examples to be built. Only this time, it's got no roof.

Now officially confirmed after leaking out the other day, the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster features the same radical styling, extreme competition-derived aerodynamics, carbon-intensive construction and twelve-cylinder powertrain as the coupe that proceeded it and which we enjoyed photographing for your viewing pleasure just last month. The principal difference, of course, is the open-air cockpit, which offers no protection from the elements whatsoever: no fabric umbrella contraption, no removable glass or metal panel, nothing to get between your dome and the air rushing by at 220 miles per hour. That's the same top speed as the coupe, while the 0-62 run takes just a fraction of a second longer at 2.9 seconds. But we doubt you'd notice the difference with that 6.5-liter V12 revving just behind your ears.

It's the same engine and seven-speed ISR gearbox that powers the Aventador, only tuned up to 750 horsepower for the Veneno. And it should have more power, because at 3.3 million euros (about $4.5 million, give or take a Gallardo), the Veneno Roadster isn't just $600,000 more expensive than the Veneno coupe, it's also more than ten times the price of an Aventador. Carbon fiber dominates also the interior of the Veneno Roadster. The carbon fiber monocoque is visible inside the car around the central tunnel and the sills. The two lightweight bucket seats are made from Lamborghini's patented Forged Composite. The woven carbon-fiber CarbonSkin is used to clad the entire cockpit, part of the seats and the headliner. Like a hi-tech fabric, this extremely fine-looking carbon-fiber matting fits perfectly to any form and reduces the weight of the vehicle.

The systematic, carbon-fiber, lightweight design of the Veneno Roadster is not only visible, it is also evident on the scales: with a dry weight of just 1,490 kilograms (3,278 pounds), the Veneno Roadster benefits from a power-to-weight ratio of just 1.99 kg/hp (4.38 lbs/hp) which guarantees a performance that is nothing short of mind-blowing. Even the stunning acceleration figure of 2.9 seconds cannot adequately describe it. Despite an aerodynamic setup configured for extreme downforce, the Veneno Roadster possesses exceptionally low wind resistance which allows it to reach a top speed of 355 km/h (221 mph).

Ford Mustang Hollywood SEMA show car

Ford always shows up in force at the SEMA Show, but this year's tally of 57 custom-tuned cars, trucks and vans is more than we can ever recall the Blue Oval bringing. Ford will introduce 28 of its project vehicles in its "Dreamcase" ahead of next month's show. The first batch of eight you'll find here with the remaining vehicles trickling into public view over the next couple of weeks.

This first group of cars includes a Fiesta, four Fiesta ST hatchbacks and a trio of Mustang show cars styled and tuned to varying degrees all by different aftermarket companies. Tanner Foust, Nitto Tire, 3dCarbon and Ice Nine Group are some of the more familiar names affixed to these cars. Our favorite so far is the Hollywood Hot Rods Mustang convertible (shown above) with its removable aluminum top and methanol-injected, 750-horsepower 5.0-liter V8.

Ford Prepares to Unleash 'Vandemonium' at 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Launches Online Vehicle Dreamcase

Ford Motor Company will roar into Las Vegas next month, showcasing 57 customized vehicles and delivering several exciting announcements as it goes further for the Specialty Equipment Market Association's premier annual event.

Ford will highlight its rich history of longtime relationships with aftermarket tuners at the 2013 SEMA show, taking over more than 27,000 square feet inside Las Vegas Convention Center Nov. 5-8. Ford will also occupy more than 110,000 square feet of the convention center's Silver Lot, where company-sponsored racing schools from Miller Motorsports Park will take center stage in "Ford Out Front."

The Ford exhibit will feature modified versions of Ford's most popular models, including Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, Mustang, F-150 and Super Duty. Ford and its aftermarket modifiers will also highlight what's possible when the European styling of Transit Connect Wagon and Transit Connect cargo van is mixed with the creativity of the industry's top builders and customizers â€" "Vandemonium" will be the result.

Leading up to the show, Ford will release renderings of the best SEMA project vehicles in Dreamcase, a digital display. The first vehicles to be featured in Dreamcase are 2014 Mustangs and Fiestas, outfitted with the best aftermarket upgrades and wearing custom colors. Ford will also host a press event at its stand at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, inside Las Vegas Convention Center. In addition to the announcements Ford has planned, special guest Gene Simmons of KISS and his wife, actress Shannon Tweed, will reveal a 1956 F100 truck to be featured in a charity auction, with proceeds going toward funds for a new children's hospital near Tweed's hometown in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Race fans will have plenty to talk about and see as Ford Racing makes an exciting major announcement about its 2014 racing program.

Ford's indoor exhibit will be home to "Vandemonium" â€" 10 Transit Connect Wagons and cargo vans treated as blank canvas by aftermarket tuners to illustrate the vehicle's use beyond family or commercial transportation. The modifications go beyond eye-catching custom paint or new fascia. The builders incorporated a functionality that captures the spirit of Transit Connect, including creating a mobile boutique, working bike shop and a portable two-person gaming lounge. Look for the first custom Transit Connects to be previewed in Dreamcase this Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Ford will offer race fans at SEMA the opportunity to be among the first to play Xbox One's "Forza Motorsport 5," which goes on Nov. 22 of this year. Enthusiasts can take the new Ford Fiesta ST for a virtual spin at the exclusive Xbox One demo stations on the show floor, including the custom designed 2014 Fiesta ST MRT Xbox show car.

At the "Ford Out Front" display outside of the convention center, attendees will see how Ford takes customers further on the road, off the road and on the track. Media will have the chance to ride in Rallycross Fiestas driven by Ken Block and Tanner Foust. Fans will also get in on the action, with ride sessions offered for the Fiesta ST and F-150 SVT Raptor used at Ford-sponsored racing schools.

Like a middleweight who decides to challenge a heavyweight in the ring, Hollywood Hot Rods decided to take on the supercars with its 2014 Ford Mustang GT convertible at SEMA 2013. While the classic style and proportions of Mustang say performance even in stock form, the team at Hollywood Hot Rods wanted to create something truly unique with this project car.

"We really wanted to take the customization of this Mustang to the next level," said Troy Ladd, owner of Hollywood Hot Rods. "Instead of simply adding accessories and a custom paint job, we wanted to really change the car.

"So we decided to redesign some key elements of the car, like the roof and rear section; to create a completely new and bold design that propels Mustang into supercar status while retaining classic Mustang DNA."

More than 150 hours of went into reshaping the entire rear section of the Mustang project car in metal. Another 250 hours of hand-forming went into crafting the aluminum lift-off roof. All body modifications including the front splitter, side scoops, skirts and diffuser are custom fabricated in aluminum.

This Hollywood Hot Rods Mustang has the mechanical credentials to back up its looks, with a Ford Racing Whipple supercharger and Banks Straight-Shot Water-Methanol injection system with IQ Man Machine interface, bringing the 5.0-liter V8 to an estimated 750 horsepower. Underneath, a Cortex Racing X-treme grip track suspension system keeps the tires planted so all that power can be put to use.

Red is the color that screams performance, and it certainly works for the 2014 Ford Mustang GT created by Nitto Tire for the upcoming SEMA show in Las Vegas. Designed to enhance the natural athleticism of Mustang's curves, the team added a bold 3dCarbon body kit to visually lower the car, and a Classic Design Concepts performance grille to feed all the air the engine and cooling system will ever need.

The muscular body is finished in custom BASF R-M Onyx Race Red paint with jet black stripes and that matches the red Wilwood brake calipers. A fiery look like this needs plenty of "go" to accompany the "show," and this pony delivers.

The 5.0-liter Coyote V8 makes a great starting point for a racy Mustang. Nitto turned to Ford Racing for upgrades including a new intake manifold, Ford Racing Performance Parts 65-millimeter twin-bore throttle body and matching air intake to feed the V8, with Tune Logics calibration to make it sing. Nitto Tire NT05 Max performance rubber on Niche Plus A220 three-piece forged wheels keep everything connected to the pavement.

2014 Mercedes-Benz Citan Crewbus

Even though the commercial vehicle segment here in the US is still dominated by American automakers, Mercedes-Benz continues to be a top automaker for global work vehicles, including its recently introduced Citan. Built as a part of the Daimler-Renault alliance and sharing its design with the Renault Kangoo, the Mercedes-Benz Citan gets some notable upgrades including an optional diesel engine, available custom body conversions and a new stretched, seven-passenger model.

Going on sale next spring, the Citan Crewbus (shown above) adds a third row of seating with two seats in the back that can slide fore or aft to maximize passenger comfort, or they can be removed altogether for more cargo space. Currently, the Citan is only sold in Europe, but that will soon expand to include Asia, Chile and the Middle East. We asked a Mercedes spokesperson if there's a chance we'll ever see the Citan in the US to compete against small commercial vans like the Ford Transit Connect, Nissan NV200 and Chevrolet City Express, and the response was that there are "no plans" to do so.

Powerful models from Mercedes-Benz round off the range of Citan urban delivery vans. The new top-of-the-line diesel model is the Citan 111 CDI developing 81 kW (110 hp). With its petrol engine, the Citan 112 (84 kW/112 hp) is likewise new. The extra-long Citan crewbus with up to seven seats will follow in spring 2014. In cooperation with well-known bodybuilders, the Citan model range is extended further: thanks to the certification scheme VanPartner by Mercedes-Benz, tested industry-specific solutions are available.

Mercedes-Benz Citan: successfully established
One year after its launch, the urban delivery van bearing the Mercedes star has established itself well. It has now been introduced in all EU countries, Switzerland, Norway and Turkey. Russia is currently set to follow as another market. Work is underway to launch in Chile, for example, while other regions in Southeast Asia and the Middle East are also being examined. Further variants broaden the offering.

New Citan 111 CDI: powerful, smooth, economical
The new top-of-the-line diesel model is the Citan 111 CDI. The engine here develops 81 kW (110 hp) from a displacement of 1.5 litres. Maximum torque is 240 Nm, making the Citan 111 CDI equally strong on pulling power.

The Citan 111 CDI is a lively performer, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.3 seconds. Its top speed of 170 km/h also makes it suitable for long distances. At the same time, it is among the most economical and environmentally friendly vehicles in its class: equipped with the optional BlueEfficiency package including the Eco start/stop function, the Citan achieves an outstanding combined fuel consumption of just 4.4 litres per 100 km. The list price for the long Citan 111 CDI panel van is €17,130 (excl. VAT).

New Citan 112: lively, comfortable, cost-effective
The new Citan 112 is particularly agile and comfortable at work. At 84 kW (112 hp), it obtains the highest output from the smallest displacement (1.2 l) in the model series. It is also one of the most cost-effective and low-emission urban delivery vans. BlueEfficiency technology and an Eco start/stop function are standard features. Combined fuel consumption is low at 6.1 litres/100 km.

With a top speed of 173 km/h and acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in just 11.7 seconds, the Citan 112 offers impressive performance. The long panel van is priced at €15,810 (excl. VAT).

Both the Citan 111 CDI and the Citan 112 are equipped with a six-speed manual transmission as standard. With its wide ratio spread, the transmission ensures both powerful start-off characteristics and low engine speeds at higher road speeds. This is accompanied by low driving noise and favourable fuel consumption.

New extra-long Citan crewbus with up to seven seats
As another new addition, the Citan is available as a crewbus with up to seven seats. It is based on the extra-long variant (length: 4705 mm). This crewbus is intended for commercial passenger transport, commercial transport of personnel and/or cargo, as well as mixed private and commercial use.

The new third seat row in the Citan consists of two individual seats. These are independently adjustable fore-and-aft, and can be individually folded down or removed as required.

Bodybuilder Centre and VanPartner â€" the Citan made to measure
Individual solutions for special requirements â€" conversions and custom bodies have always been important at Mercedes-Benz Vans. What is not available ex factory can be taken care of by bodybuilders. For the Citan, the conversion rate is already 16 percent.

The Bodybuilder Centre at Mercedes-Benz Vans is a partner to body and conversion specialists. It provides advice to these companies and accompanies new developments by Mercedes-Benz Vans. End-users also benefit: the publicly available information portal www.vanpartner.info provides an overview of more than 300 product solutions from around 90 partners - already including numerous versions for the Citan.

The companies featured on the website qualify as a VanPartner by Mercedes-Benz because they have achieved a special status: Mercedes-Benz Vans has not only approved the relevant solution, but even recommends it to end-users. Both quality and the level of sales and service are scrutinised extensively. By the end of the year, there will be VanPartners in all major European markets.

Meanwhile, there are now numerous, sometimes highly specialised conversions available for the Citan. Whether as a wheelchair taxi, mobile workshop or fresh food service, as a police vehicle or airport follow-me vehicle â€" with interior fittings and conversions the Citan fulfils tasks that go well beyond merely transporting passengers and goods.
