Ferrari wind tunnel in Maranello

Ferrari is not a company used to being behind the curve, but if you've been wondering how the Scuderia has lost so much territory on the Formula One circuit to a relative newcomer like Red Bull, part of the answer could come down to its wind tunnel.

Seriously, the wind tunnel? Yes, the wind tunnel. Aerodynamics play an increasingly vital role in F1 racing, and while Red Bull has one of the best in the business, Ferrari's hasn't been running right for some time now.

A year and a half ago Ferrari shut down the galleria del vento at its headquarters in Maranello, citing problems with "correlation" - that is, a major discrepancy between the results it got in the wind tunnel, in CFD computations and on the racetrack. Having narrowed the problem down, the Scuderia embarked upon a major overhaul. It's been using Toyota's facility in Cologne, Germany, in the meantime, but as team principal Stefano Domenicali put it, not having your own wind tunnel on premises "is like playing basketball with one hand behind your back." Now the renovations reportedly complete, however, and Ferrari will begin using its wind tunnel again next month.

With Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull so far in the lead, it may be too late to fix this year's car to any meaningful effect. But while the design of next year's car may already be close to finalized, getting the aero up to spec could mean the difference between putting Ferrari back on top or letting it slide even further. And with two former champions forming a crimson-clad "dream team" next season, the new facility couldn't have come any sooner.

Mini TwinPower engine

The 2014 Cooper will come with a three-cylinder engine and the Cooper S will get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, both with Mini's TwinPower turbochargers.

We have seen spy photos of the all-new Mini Cooper. We have been teased about its drivetrain. Now we have the engine details confirmed by BMW.

The next Cooper, which will be officially unveiled at the Oxford factory in November and then at the Los Angeles Auto Show a couple of days later, will come with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine for the base model, and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder for the Cooper S. The base engine produces 134 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, the plateau of which is reached at just 1,250 rpm. An overboost function allows up to 170 lb-ft for short bursts. The four-banger produces 189 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque (221 lb-ft with overboost). These power figures come thanks to MINI's TwinPower turbocharging and direct injection, technologies that are borrowed from Mini's parent company, BMW. In case you forgot, this is actually the first engine used by Mini sourced from BMW. The first of the reborn Cooper models was powered by a joint-venture engine with Chrysler. The second-generation uses an engine from Peugeot.

A higher-performing package will, of course, accompany the John Cooper Works edition that we're certain will be coming shortly after the new Cooper launches in Spring 2014.

Mini has chosen to hook its new engines to six-speed transmissions, which, contrary to the trend of adding more gears for more efficiency, is the same number of ratios found in the current Cooper. Stop-start will be standard as well. Cooper models equipped with navigation, meanwhile, will get new technology from BMW that can anticipate upcoming downshifts, such as when approaching an intersection or sharp turn.

The new Mini platform benefits from lightweight technologies shared with BMW's new i-series.

The new Mini platform benefits from lightweight technologies shared with BMW's new i-series, and it will also be shared by the forthcoming 1 Series GT that was previewed by the Concept Active Tourer. It is the smallest platform in the BMW family. This Mini Cooper, codenamed F56, is the third modern Mini since the first debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 2000.

While this latest Mini design looks to be more evolutionary than revolutionary, perhaps that shouldn't be a surprise. One of the reasons Mini has been able to go seven years in between dances â€" long by today's standards â€" is that it is unique in the marketplace and loved by people who don't want it to change much. Also, Mini has certainly kept the showroom fresh with a Paceman, Countryman, Coupe and Roadster.

In any case, Mini USA is doing pretty well for BMW. It will sell about 68,000 Mini models in the States in 2013, which would put the brand up three-percent year over year. That sounds a little meek considering the industry is up 9.6 percent through August, but as we pointed out earlier, the outgoing R56 Cooper is in its seventh year. By the end of 2013 there will be about 500,000 Minis registered in the US â€" not bad considering the machine was launched in the States by BMW in 2002.

Mini hasn't yet released any information on how it has improved the interior (though we have seen some spy shots), the biggest source of demerits on J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study, which is influential if not always a great measure of a car's real appeal or ownership experience.

Before we let you slog through the press release, we will alert you to look for the translated German regarding the multi-link rear axle and single-link spring-strut axle in the front, a next-generation electronic power steering system, and Mini's first adjustable damping system. Scroll on down for all of the details.

Innovative technology for typical MINI MOTORING pleasure:

· New generation of three and four-cylinder engines
· All-new chassis technology
· Passive safety, protection for passengers and pedestrians

Woodcliff Lake, NJ â€" September 29, 2013... The latest innovations in drivetrain, chassis and safety will see future MINI models build on their segment-leading position.

Since 1959, the unmistakable go-kart feeling has been at the heart of the British marque's DNA. Today, every member of the MINI family has the combination of agile handling, exemplary efficiency, contemporary comfort and uncompromising safety. With the typical innovative strength expected from a premium manufacturer, MINI seeks to set standards for the future in developing vehicles and technologies that transform driving into a unique motoring experience.

A new generation of engines will once again optimize the balance between driving thrills and fuel consumption. Future MINI models will be the first to use both three and four-cylinder engines, not only covering a broader performance spectrum, but also setting new standards in terms of output, performance, comfort and reliability. The quality of the new engines is a direct result of the unique development expertise of the BMW Group in the area of drive technology. Thanks to the brand and model-specific design, they have performance characteristics synonymous with the MINI motoring experience.

The advances achieved by MINI in the area of drivetrain technology are characterized by the consistent further development of tried-and-tested design principles and the integration of innovative technology. MINI developers will continue to emphasize sporty, agile handling for all chassis variants.

In addition, MINI will introduce electrically adjustable dampers for the first time. The electric control of the damper valves will make it possible to vary the nature of responsiveness to uneven road surfaces. Two characteristic curves will be available for damper adjustment that can be activated at the flip of a switch. Depending on the driver's preferences, a sporty drivetrain setting or something more balanced and comfortable can be selected.

The new generation of engines.

Maximum motoring fun and the most economical fuel consumption â€" a two-fold victory in terms of performance and efficiency has helped the latest MINI models to score top marks over their rivals in comparative tests regarding engine technology and driving performance. This is made possible by a new generation of engines and MINIMALISM technologies which will be available in all models as standard.

For the first time, the MINI models of the future will use both three and four-cylinder engines that not only cover an even broader range of performance, but also set new standards in terms of output, efficiency, comfort and reliability. Both brand and model-specific design ensures that they have performance characteristics typical of MINI.

More power and lower CO2 emissions thanks to MINI TwinPower turbo technology.

A common feature of the new drive units is the MINI TwinPower turbo technology, which optimizes both performance and efficiency. In the case of the petrol engines, this technology package includes turbocharging, direct fuel injection, variable camshaft control on the intake and outlet sides (dual VANOS) and, in the more powerful versions, fully variable valve control according to the model of the BMW Group's patented VALVETRONIC system.

All-new engines were designed for the transverse configuration typical of the MINI and feature a compact and lightweight design. They also comply with exhaust standard EU6. The engines are equipped with an aluminum crankshaft in a closed-deck configuration. A forged steel crankshaft with integrated balancing shaft drive, weight-optimized piston and forged conrod contributes to the high level of performance within the engine through reduced frictional coefficients. The three-cylinder engines each have a countershaft to enhance smooth operation, while the four-cylinder model has two such shafts that counter-rotate. The cylinder head in all engine variants is made of aluminum.

For the market launch of the new drive generation, MINI is presenting a three-cylinder combustion engine that generates an output of 100 kW/134 bhp from a cubic capacity of 1.5 liters and a 141 kW/189 bhp variant of the newly developed four-cylinder combustion engine that has a cubic capacity of 2.0 liters.

A new generation of engines with typical MINI performance characteristics.

All of the new petrol engines feature spontaneous responsiveness, high torque characteristics and supreme power delivery. The 1.5 litre three-cylinder engine reaches its maximum torque of 220 newton meters at an engine speed of 1,250 rpm; this can be increased briefly to 230 newton meters by means of the overboost function. The 141 kW/189 bhp four-cylinder model actually achieves a torque of 280 newton meters with the same engine speed (300 nm with overboost). The maximum speed of all new petrol engines is 6,500 rpm.

The engine's sporty character is favored by the position of the turbocharger integrated in the exhaust manifold. The short path of the exhaust stream enables the charging system to be activated promptly and effectively. In addition, the emissions pattern of the engines is optimized by the positioning of the catalytic converter and an electronically regulated waste gate. An efficient and precisely dosed fuel supply system facilitates direct injection with centrally positioned injectors between the valves and directly next to the spark plugs. The electronic control for camshaft positioning and the stroke of the intake valves are further technological elements that optimize the responsiveness and the consumption and emissions readings of the new petrol engines for MINI.

Newly developed manual and automatic gearboxes will further contribute to the intense motoring pleasure that MINI has to offer, and will enhance the efficiency of the drive technology. The new manual gearboxes feature an innovative gear sensor which adapts the engine speed when shifting gears. This permits fast and sporty shifting with always the right engine speed available during gear shifts.

The automatic start-stop function can also be used in future MINI models in conjunction with the automatic gearbox, avoiding unnecessary fuel consumption when stopped at junctions or when caught in heavy traffic. For cars equipped with a navigation system, gear selection can be adapted to the current route. This way, the suitable gear is selected before reaching junctions or before cornering.

Chassis Technology.

Thanks to the continued optimization in the areas of wheel suspension, spring system, damping, steering and braking, motoring is set to become even more enjoyable in future MINI models. In combination with the features so characteristic of any MINI, such as the vehicle's low centre of gravity, wide track gauge, short overhangs, transverse engine, rigid bodywork and intelligent lightweight design, innovative solutions in the chassis area make for even more precise and sporty handling. The agility that characterizes all MINIs is also combined with further advances in the area of driving comfort. This is the first time that MINI is to offer electrically adjustable dampers that can be used to optimize sportiness and driving comfort.

Tried-and-tested construction principle, completely redeveloped components.

The complete redesign of the chassis for future MINI models continues to focus on the tried-and-tested structure of the single-link spring strut axle at the front, and the multi-link rear axle - unique among MINI's competitors. It also includes component optimizations in terms of material choice and geometry. The dampers on the front and rear axles are uncoupled from the bodywork by means of complex struts. In combination with the reduction of the unsprung inertial masses, this makes it possible to increase both agility and driving comfort. Newly developed and aerodynamically optimised light alloy wheels are manufactured in a forging process requiring the use of less material.

In its latest incarnation, the front single-link spring strut axle features increased component rigidity. In combination with a modified axial kinematic movement, this creates ideal conditions for particularly agile manoeuvrability and steering control that is largely freed from the influence of the drive mechanism. The wider track gauge also makes a further contribution to optimizing sporty characteristics.

Consistency in lightweight design also influenced driving performance. The use of aluminum in the pivot bearing and high tensile steels in the front axle bearing and in the transverse rocker arms reduces the unsprung inertial masses. The innovative torque roll axial bearing enables both agility and comfort to be tangibly increased. This component consists of an engine and a transmission bearing that together absorb the weight of the engine and also support the torque in conjunction with the engine swivel support. The engine block is hydraulically attenuated, further enhancing the increase in comfort because this design prevents the engine from surging under the influence of uneven road surfaces.

By further developing the multi-link rear axle, MINI is building on its unique position in the competitive field. Key changes â€" wider track gauge, the use of high-strength steels and greater rigidity in the wheel suspension â€" take place in tandem with the modifications to the front axle. The spatial design of the rear axle also leads to improved entry comfort and to more space in the rear as well as a larger luggage compartment volume which is also easier to load.

More precise, more comfortable: electromechanical power steering.

The next generation of the EPS (Electronic Power Steering) used for MINI models offers speed-dependent support for the steering force. In the future it will take less steering force to operate this, while the system will also meet the requirements for the use of a parking assist function.

The further development of the steering system will promote agility, driving safety and comfort in equal measure. Thanks to the complex wheel suspension system, the steering ratio can be implemented very directly. Likewise, the optimization of the front axle has a direct impact on the steering, as it facilitates a sensitive steering style when negotiating bends in a sporty style. This effect is further enhanced by the use of so-called torque steer compensation. This torque steering compensation counteracts a tendency towards self-steering in powerful front-wheel drive vehicles due to differences in torque between the right and left front wheels. In the future, active rotational damping will provide for gentler and therefore more precisely controllable vehicle reactions in rapid evasion manoeuvres and when negotiating particularly sporty bends.

Advanced brake system for more comfort and security.

Another important contribution to motoring pleasure is derived from the improvements in the function and weight of the brake system, which is more closely tailored to the specific models. The new system impresses with its excellent durability with low unsprung inertial masses. This results in greater comfort, more precise dosability and a longer service life. The efficiency of the MINI can also be increased through targeted innovations in the brake system. Thus, optimized coatings help to reduce the residual braking momentum, thereby enhancing the vehicle's rolling friction.

Excellent long-lasting properties are achieved through improved surface protection on the disc brake chamber and brake callipers. Another plus point is the optimization of the brake cooling system through refined brake protection plates and a redesigned brake cooling shaft.

A first for MINI: adjustable dampers.

In an effort to emphasize the MINI character even more, the spring and damper adjustment will be optimized. On the front axle, spring struts made of aluminum and steel and two-pipe compression dampers with coated pistons and a degressive damper characteristic curve are used. The support bearings on the front and rear axles will have three paths in future. The characteristic curves of the support bearing and additional springs have also been optimized on a functional basis, as have the helical springs installed on both axes. The stabilisers on the front and rear axles have holdings bearings and will have a tubular design, helping to reduce weight in the chassis area.

In addition, MINI will be introducing adjustable dampers for the first time. The electric control of the damper valves allows the characteristic response to uneven road surface to be varied. Two characteristic curves are available for adjusting the damper and these can be activated at the flip of a switch. The traction and compression level in the shock absorber can be adjusted by selecting the appropriate setting. Depending on the driver's preferences, it is possible to choose either a sporty or a balanced, comfortable chassis. This means that it is possible to enjoy greater driving comfort in poor road conditions or a sporty driving style on an even road surface.

Passive safety, protection for passengers and pedestrians.

Premium vehicles by MINI hold an excellent position within their vehicle class not just in terms of motoring pleasure, but also in the area of passenger protection. In the event of a collision, precisely defined support structures and generously proportioned crumple zones help to protect the passenger cell while highly efficient restraint systems offer MINI passengers optimum protection in all types of crashes.

Top scores in international crash tests confirm the effectiveness of the overall concept for maximum passive safety, which is under continuous development for new models to ensure that the latest standards are met. In addition, innovative solutions in the area of pedestrian protection are also being developed for future MINI models, helping to reduce the risk of injury for other road users.

Reduced weight and increased safety thanks to intelligent lightweight construction.

The focus of developments in the body area is on structural improvements that have a positive influence on both driving features and crash performance. Intelligent lightweight construction enables MINI to combine the reduction of weight with an increase in rigidity and this promotes both agility and passenger protection. The use of second generation high-strength multi-phase steels plays a key role. Their excellent forming properties allow for much more complex structures than would be possible with conventional materials, while still permitting no compromise on strength. Parts that are of particular relevance to structural rigidity are made from micro-alloyed steels. In addition, hot-formed steels are used in the safety-related zones.

So-called tailored welded blanks and tailored rolled blanks also contribute to the optimization of weight. Welded and rolled sheet metal joints are widely used for the first time in cars from the small vehicle segment. The reinforcement of the B pillars with a coating of galvanised, hot-formed steel, which acts as a cathodic anti-corrosion finish, means that additional, weight-increasing measures could be dropped.

Despite the reduced weight, the intelligent mix of materials for the highly resilient support structures in the front and rear and in the roof and side frame. In the event of the vehicle rolling over, the reinforced pillars and roof supports secure the survival space of the passengers even more intensively than ever. Reinforced structures in the B pillar and sill area, high-strength side impact bars in the doors and stable seat braces will further minimize the degree of deformation and the speed of intrusion in the event of a side impact.

This concept establishes the right conditions for maintaining the passenger cell as a survival space in a wide variety of accident scenarios and forms the basis for the high level of effectiveness of the restraint systems. The integrated safety electronics ensure that the triggering of the airbag and belt systems is adapted to the type and severity of the accident. The coordinated interaction of all components ensures the best possible protection, irrespective of the position of the passengers at the time of impact.

Crumple elements on the front for extensive pedestrian protection.

The front section of future MINI models will have extra crumple elements. In addition to the yielding sections of the engine cover, a shock absorber between the bumper bracket and the cladding is intended to reduce the risk of injury. The pedestrian protection system will also be part of the standard equipment supplied with new MINI models.

A year after showing off its extraterrestrial, 46.2-foot yacht concept, Mercedes-Benz Style and Silver Arrows Marine have a revealed a two-meter mock-up of the watercraft's final exterior, along with detailed interior design renderings. Unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show going on right now, the boat even has a name: the Arrow640 â€" Granturismo.

Other blanks have been filled in from last year as well: its design represents "sensual purity," the interior is an open-plan concept for up to ten passengers with a dining table and bed that "slide into position" when either is needed, materials include nubuck leather and eucalyptus wood paneling set off by "sophisticated color combinations," window glazing will control light penetration according to the sun's intensity, and the decking is composed of "a high-tech synthetic material." It will be powered by two diesel engines producing a total of 940 horsepower and will cost 1.25 million euros ($1.69M US). First deliveries are slated for 2015.

The order book for the Edition 1 version of the Arrow640 â€" Granturismo opens at the Monaco show, with the limited-to-ten series including everything but air conditioning and premium audio. You can expect it to cost more.

Besides the yacht, Mercedes-Benz Style will present its entire design portfolio on the Upper Deck Lounge, from the Eurocopter EC145 to its furniture line to a luggage collection that will go on sale later this year. A press release below has more info.

World premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show: Mercedes-Benz Style to present the final design of the new luxury motor yacht

Stuttgart/Monte Carlo, Sep 26, 2013 - Premiering at the Monaco Yacht Show from 25 to 28 September 2013, one year after the presentation of the first design drafts, Mercedes-Benz Style and Silver Arrows Marine are presenting the final exterior and interior design of their new luxury motor yacht â€" the ARROW460 â€" Granturismo. The motor yacht combines hallmark design features of Mercedes-Benz automobiles with unrivalled innovations in the boat building industry. The result is a fascinating luxury yacht offering a new dimension in aesthetics and comfort. At the Monaco Yacht Show Mercedes-Benz Style and Silver Arrows Marine will present a two-metre long model and detailed renderings of the 14-metre long 'Granturismo of the seas'. Silver Arrows Marine is also opening its order book for the Edition 1, a special limited-numbers launch edition to mark the arrival of the ARROW460 â€" Granturismo. In addition to the model yacht, Mercedes-Benz Style is showing its entire product portfolio at the Upper Deck Lounge of the Monaco Yacht Show.

"This new motor yacht with its emotional and high-tech features embodies our Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of sensual purity and is a perfect expression of modern luxury," says Gorden Wagener, Vice President Design at Daimler AG. "Under the label Mercedes-Benz Style we develop highly exclusive design products beyond the automobile, thereby bringing our sensual, clear and progressive design idiom, into other spheres of life."

Exterior design: expressive surfaces perfectly harmonise with dynamic lines for a striking and progressive overall appeal
"We have created something unique with the ARROW460 â€" Granturismo. I am convinced that for many years to come the yacht will be an eye-catching addition to the seas and yacht marinas of the world," says Ron Gibbs, Chairman of Silver Arrows Marine Ltd.

The final design impresses with its clear contours and smooth surfaces as an expression of refined sportiness. The muscular, stretched hull symbolises the sensual purity of the design: dynamic but not aggressive, sophisticated but not subject to fashion. With its long foredeck, a flowing, arched roofline and a slightly descending rear, the design is inspired by classic automobile proportions.

A feature line descending gently towards the stern distinguishes the yacht's profile in just the same way the hallmark Mercedes "dropping line" distinguishes the cars. The concave and convex interaction along the entire flank creates a hull that conveys both dynamism and serenity. Underlining the yacht's design uniqueness, the bow section is upright and emphatically three-dimensional.

The overall composition is accentuated by elegantly styled yet functional fittings while attention to detail is second to none. The handrails, for example are perfectly integrated into the exterior.

Interior design: innovative space concept with exquisite materials
The guiding hand of the automobile designers is also evident in the interior. The hallmark values of a Mercedes-Benz automobile predominate here: comfort and a familiar feeling of a Mercedes-Benz interior. Complementing exquisite materials such as nubuck leather and eucalyptus wood panelling, as well as sophisticated colour combinations. Mercedes-Benz designers have developed an innovative space concept for up to ten passengers. The concept combines the characteristics of an open boat, with its close connection to the sea and the sky, with those of a cabin cruiser with a generous interior space and more private areas.

The 14-metre long Granturismo is therefore suitable for both day trips and overnight excursions. The yacht offers outstanding versatility. The large side windows slide open and the front window can be raised, allowing passengers to sit comfortably inside, but still enjoy an all-round view and the feeling of being outside. The glazing automatically controls light penetration depending on the intensity of the sun. The yacht decking is made out of a high-tech synthetic material which enabled the designers to create an entirely new look.

The generously dimensioned interior dispenses with a traditional motor yacht's compartmentalisied layout and instead features a multifunctional and largely open-plan area. Dining table and bed slide into position as and when they are required. Superior comfort and total privacy are assured by a luxurious bathroom unit and separate utility-room. The special Edition 1 version comes with every feature an owner could wish for as standard. Apart from air conditioning and a premium audio system, the yacht will be equipped with a wine "cellar" and an ice-making machine.

The ARROW460 â€" Granturismo is powered by two diesel engines developing 353 kW (480 hp) each. The yacht is being launched with the Edition 1 model which will be built as a limited edition of ten units. This exclusive version of the "Granturismo of the seas" can be ordered directly from Silver Arrows Marine at a price of € 1.25 million (plus VAT). 2013 Nissan Rogue - front three-quarter view

Despite the fact that an all-new generation of its Rogue crossover goes on sale in November, Nissan will continue to sell the current model alongside its replacement. The existing C-platform-based Rogue, which will be renamed Rogue Select, will start at less than $20,000 when it goes on sale in January 2014. At present, a base 2013 Rogue S prices out slightly higher, from $20,310, but we wouldn't be surprised to see the 2014 Rogue Select come to market with more standard equipment and simplified trim options. It will continue to be built in Kyushu, Japan.

According to Nissan, the unusual move is "to satisfy demand for the popular compact sports utility vehicle, currently second-highest seller in Nissan's lineup, as well as provide customers an additional choice in the segment." It's hard to hard to argue with the numbers: Nissan cites 2012 calendar-year sales of 142,349 Rogue units in the US, with 2013 sales increasing 16 percent through August despite the vehicle's age.

The strategy may also give Nissan the chance to ask for more money for the second-generation model (which is based on a new Common Module Family platform shared with partner Renault) while keeping it clear of residual-value-damaging fleet sales. The new Rogue looks to be both larger and more luxurious, with an available third-row seat, and it should be more economical to produce, as it will be built in Nissan's Smyrna, TN plant.

If this decision to continue to sell an existing model while simultaneously selling its successor sounds like a familiar strategy, that's probably because we recently reported that Nissan's luxury marque, Infiniti, made a similar decision, announcing it would continue to sell the current G37 sedan alongside its replacement, the 2014 Infiniti Q50. Read Nissan's press release below for more details on this latest sales move and let us know what you think about this move in Comments.

Nissan to Continue U.S. Sales of Current Generation Rogue - Renamed Rogue Select

Due to popular demand, current generation Rogue to continue in Nissan lineup as Rogue Select
Rogue, the second best-selling vehicle in Nissan's U.S. lineup, is totally redesigned for 2014 model year â€" set for November on-sale

NASHVILLE, Tenn. â€" With the November on-sale date of the all-new 2014 Nissan Rogue compact utility vehicle coming fast, Nissan today announced that the popular current-generation Rogue will continue in its lineup for the immediate future.

Renamed the Rogue Select, it is slated to go on sale in January 2014 at a base M.S.R.P.* of less than $20,000 (USD) at Nissan dealers nationwide. Rogue Select complements the completely redesigned Rogue, which debuted on September 10. The strategy behind this move is to satisfy demand for the popular compact sports utility vehicle, currently second-highest seller in Nissan's lineup, as well as provide customers an additional choice in the segment.

In CY2012, Rogue sold 142,349 units in the U.S., while in 2013 sales have increased 16% through August.

"As the compact SUV segment is becoming very specialized, there is an opening for a low-cost, high-content offering, which is a gap that Rogue Select will fill," said Fred Diaz, divisional vice president, Sales and Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. "Rogue Select will allow Nissan to continue its strong performance in the segment, which will only get stronger once the all-new, U.S.-built 2014 Rogue goes on sale."

The all-new Rogue will be assembled in Smyrna, Tenn., while the current-generation vehicle is built in Kyushu, Japan, where Rogue Select will also be assembled.

More information about Rogue Select, including equipment levels and pricing, will be available closer to its on-sale date.

Alfa Romeo 4C IFD Bicycle

We've seen automakers partner with bicycle manufacturers on numerous sets of wheels in the past. Some tempt and disappoint, but this strikes us as one of the cooler auto-branded bikes we've seen. (But then this writer has always been partial to Italian style.)

Born of a collaboration between the Alfa Romeo Style Centre and Compagnia Ducale, the 4C IFD bicycle is designed to complement Alfa's new lightweight sports car with an "Innovative Frame Design". Alfa says the frame is shaped like an inverted 4 and the cross-section of the carbon-fiber half-tube is shaped like a C, but gimmicks aside, the result is an incredibly light ride that weighs in at just 15 pounds.

Crafted entirely by hand in Italy, the 4C IFD bike features a Deda Elementi Crono handlebar, Campagnolo brakes, gears, chain and frame, forks, saddle and wheels all made of carbon fiber. Pricing starts at 3,500 euros and Alfa says that, in addition to Europe and Asia, the bike will be sold in America. Of course if its availability depends on the marque's return to the US market, we wouldn't hold our breath for too long â€" but then we don't have nearly five grand to spend on a bike, anyway.

Alfa Romeo introduces the exclusive 4C IFD bicycle

- Inspired by the compact super car, the perfect balance of design and technological innovation
- Made by the Alfa Romeo Style Centre and Compagnia Ducale, the bicycle is entirely crafted by hand in Italy
- Available from December starting from a price of 3500 euro

Sophisticated design with a light-weight, innovative frame: these are the features of the '4C IFD Bicycle' project designed by the Alfa Romeo Style Centre and Compagnia Ducale. The acronym IFD (standing for 'Innovative Frame Design') places the accent on the intensive research aimed at making the frame as light as possible.

The same principle was applied by Alfa Romeo engineers in designing the 4C to obtain a weight/power ratio lower than 4 kg/HP, a genuine super car result. To achieve this they decided to reduce the car's weight by choosing materials that combine lightness and efficiency, and improving - at times even creating - manufacturing processes that fuse high technology and craftsmanship. The result is a total dry weight of only 895 kg made mostly of aluminium, steel, lightened SMC and carbon fibre.

The structure fashioned as a simplified "4" is inspired by the dynamic, streamline style of the Alfa Romeo super car. The innovative "C"-shaped cross-section of the frame introduces a carbon-fibre half-tube structure made of the same high-tech material used for the chassis of the Alfa Romeo 4C for the first time in the world.

The profiles converge dynamically towards the junctions of the handle bar, the chainset and the saddle to form structural strength points joined by steel tie-rods which enhance the special construction of the frame.

Sporty, light and innovative, the bicycle is the ideal companion of the amazing Alfa Romeo 4C - a perfect combination of passion and future.

Icon of style and technological innovation, the limited-edition 4C bicycle is entirely crafted by hand in Italy for lovers of unique, exclusive objects.

2015 Nissan Titan will be offered with a Cummins 5.0-liter diesel V8 that was originally meant for the Ram 1500.

The Cummins 5.0-liter turbocharged diesel V8 that Ram initially planned to use in its pickup trucks instead will find its way into the 2015 Nissan Titan as an option, Automobile reports. It will be the first time a non-Ram pickup truck will be available with a Cummins diesel engine.

The move comes after Chrysler decided to use a 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine designed by VM Motori (which is partially owned by Fiat) due to fuel economy concerns with the Cummins engine. Chrysler wanted its 2014 Ram 1500 trucks to achieve at least 26 miles per gallon. "Our simulations were showing 23 to 24 mpg [for the 5.0-liter engine]," says Mike Cairns, head of engineering at Ram.

Nissan had plans in 2008 to team with Cummins for a diesel engine for its Titan, when there were also plans for the second-generation Titan to share its platform with the Dodge Ram 1500, according to Automotive News, but that didn't pan out after Chrysler's bankruptcy in 2009.

Now that the dust is settling, let's put the pieces together. The 2014 Ram 1500 will get the EcoDiesel V6 as an option, making 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque; heavy-duty Rams can be equipped with the Cummins 6.7-liter diesel I6, which makes 350-385 hp and 660-850 lb-ft depending on the state of tune; and the 2015 Nissan Titan, a light-duty pick-up, will get the Cummins 5.0-liter V8 as an option, which makes roughly 300 hp and 500 lb-ft.

While the Nissan Titan currently poses no threat to Ram's truck operation - Nissan sold just 10,020 Titans this year through July while Ram sold 201,633 trucks during the same period - we like the idea of a light-duty pickup with a torque-rich diesel V8. Nissan's research shows that truck owners feel the same way, and 17 percent of them would consider switching brands if a light-duty truck was offered with a diesel V8, Automobile reports. That works out to 300,000 customers per year.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class BTCC

At the Frankfurt Motor Show a couple of weeks ago, Mercedes-Benz showcased a concept racecar based on the CLA. But it looks like its hatchback counterpart will be turning its wheels in anger before the four-door coupe gets a chance.

The A-Class is being prepared for competition in the British Touring Car Championship by Ciceley Racing, which currently competes in the series with a Toyota Avensis â€" sponsored by a Mercedes dealership â€" which the team will continue racing until the end of the season, at which point they'll put it up for sale.

The new Mercedes is being built to comply with the cost-effective Next Generation Touring Car regulations that call for a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with direct injection, overboost, throttle by wire and an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission. It'll be driven by the team's current driver (and former Ginetta GT Supercup champion) Adam Morgan when it debuts for the 2014 season opener at Brands Hatch in March.

The team-driven expansion into the BTCC further extends Mercedes' reach in touring car racing around the world. Benz recently made a similar move into the V8 Supercars championship Down Under while the factory supports its own DTM outfit and also sees its cars competing in Italy's Superstars series, to name just a few. Feel free to read the official announcement below.

CICELEY RACING TO SWITCH TO MERCEDES-BENZ A-CLASS FOR 2014
25 September 2013

Ciceley Racing will campaign a Mercedes-Benz A-Class in the 2014 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, paving way for the German manufacturer's debut in Britain's premier saloon car championship at Brands Hatch next March.

The decision will see Ciceley Racing align their on-track activity with main title sponsor Ciceley Commercials Mercedes-Benz Truck & Van dealership, with the A-Class judged as an ideal fit for the current NGTC regulations.

The front-running team will retain former Ginetta GT Supercup Champion Adam Morgan, who currently sits in seventh position in the 2013 BTCC championship standings, after an impressive second season in the series to date.

Ciceley Racing is no stranger to competing with Mercedes-Benz machinery in motorsport. Having clinched class wins on the Manx Rally twice in 1986 and 1987 with the Ciceley Commercials Mercedes-Benz 190 in the hands of Russell Morgan, the Lancashire-based outfit have firmly set their sights on achieving victories for a Mercedes-Benz in the BTCC in 2014.

'It's great to finally announce our plans for 2014, the switch made sense for us in many different ways," said Ciceley Racing Team Principal Russell Morgan. "With Paul Ridgway at the helm of the project holding high aspirations and Adam continuing to mature as a driver, we think that the A-Class can be a competitive package in the series next year."

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Toyota for all of their help over the last two seasons, hopefully we can end what has been a brilliant debut season for the team on a high."

BTCC Series Director Alan Gow added, "This programme by Ciceley Racing is a perfect demonstration of the strength and adaptability of our 'NGTC' technical regulations - the team are able to change from racing a Toyota and onto developing and racing a Mercedes-Benz, whilst utilising the vast majority of the NGTC components they already possess."

"It will be great to see a Mercedes-Benz on the grid, to add to the already huge roll-call of other great brands competing in the BTCC."

The BTCC will roll into Northamptonshire's Silverstone Circuit for Rounds 25,26 & 27 this weekend; any interested parties for the Toyota Avensis should contact Russell Morgan at the earliest convenience.

IIHS collision prevention test

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is once again looking to improve how it rates new cars in order to make it easier for shoppers to buy the safest cars on the market. In addition to recent test additions like the roof crush and small overlap frontal crash, the IIHS will now be adding collision avoidance technologies to its criteria for attaining a Top Safety Pick+ rating.

Since the safest way to survive a crash is to avoid it altogether, the IIHS developed a procedure (click the above image for an enlarged version of what the test looks like) and an accompanying rating system to test the various crash-avoidance systems currently offered by almost all automakers. This entails putting forward collision warning and autonomous braking systems to the test at speeds of 12 and 25 miles per hour to see how well the systems do to either prevent or reduce impact speeds. Vehicles are then given a rating from Superior (best), Advanced or Basic; cars that do not offer FCW or auto braking are not given a rating. To earn a 2014 Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must earn at least a Basic rating in this test.

To kick off the new procedure, the IIHS tested 74 "moderately priced" midsize vehicles. Subaru came out on top with Legacy and Outback models equipped with EyeSight avoiding collisions at both speeds. Cadillac's Automatic Collision Preparation avoided a collision at the lower speed and reduced the impact speeds in the ATS and SRX at the 25-mph test. The Volvo S60 and XC60 also performed well with City Safety, Collision Warning with Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection, while the Mercedes-Benz C-Class with Distronic Plus rounded out the top seven vehicles that received the Superior rating. Six vehicles earned the Advanced rating, 25 vehicles received the Basic rating and 36 vehicles did not offer a crash avoidance system.

While the ultimate goal is to make driving safer, the organization is also trying to make vehicle repair following accidents less expensive. As an example of this, a 2013 Mercedes C-Class was crashed into a Chevy Malibu (the IIHS loves crashing Malibus, doesn't it?) at both test speeds. At 12 mph, the damage to both vehicles was $5,715, but the 25-mph test resulted in $28,131 worth of damage and the Malibu being totaled. Scroll down for more information on this new test procedure and to watch a series of videos from the IIHS explaining its test and the technology required to make it work.

IIHS issues first crash avoidance ratings under new test program;
Seven midsize vehicles earn top marks for front crash prevention

ARLINGTON, Va. - A new test program by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates the performance of front crash prevention systems to help consumers decide which features to consider and encourage automakers to speed adoption of the technology. The rating system is based on research by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) indicating that forward collision warning and automatic braking systems are helping drivers avoid front-to-rear crashes.

The Institute rates models with optional or standard front crash prevention systems as superior, advanced or basic depending on whether they offer autonomous braking, or autobrake, and, if so, how effective it is in tests at 12 and 25 mph. Vehicles rated superior have autobrake and can avoid a crash or substantially reduce speeds in both tests. For an advanced rating a vehicle must have autobrake and avoid a crash or reduce speeds by at least 5 mph in 1 of 2 tests.

To earn a basic rating, a vehicle must have a forward collision warning system that meets National Highway Traffic Safety Administration performance criteria. For a NHTSA endorsement, a system must issue a warning before a specified time in 5 of 7 test trials under three scenarios. The agency identifies vehicles with compliant systems at safercar.gov/Safety+Ratings.

Moderately priced and luxury midsize cars and SUVs are the first to be evaluated in the new IIHS test program. These include 74 vehicles, all 2013-14 models. Seven earn the highest rating of superior when equipped with optional autobrake and forward collision warning systems. They are the Cadillac ATS sedan and SRX SUV, Mercedes-Benz CClass sedan, Subaru Legacy sedan and Outback wagon, Volvo S60 sedan and XC60 SUV.

Six models earn an advanced rating when equipped with autobrake and forward collision warning. These include the 2014 Acura MDX SUV, Audi A4 sedan and Q5 SUV, 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, Lexus ES sedan and the 2014 Mazda 6 sedan. In addition, the Volvo S60 and XC60 earn an advanced rating when they aren't equipped with an option called Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection. The S60 and XC60 are the only models in the new test program with standard autobrake. Called City Safety, the system brakes to avoid a front-to-rear crash in certain low-speed conditions without warning the driver before it takes action.

Twenty-five other vehicles earn a basic rating. Three models available with forward collision warning earn higher ratings when equipped with autobrake. They are the 2014 Acura MDX and the Cadillac ATS and SRX. Thirty-six models either don't offer a front crash prevention system, or they have a system that doesn't meet NHTSA or IIHS criteria.

"Front crash prevention systems can add a thousand dollars or more to the cost of a new car. Our new ratings let consumers know which systems offer the most promise for the extra expense," says David Zuby, IIHS chief research officer.

The front crash prevention ratings complement the Institute's long-standing crash test program telling consumers how well passenger vehicles protect people in a range of crash configurations. In its crashworthiness program, the Institute rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal or poor based on performance in moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint evaluations.

For crash avoidance technologies, the Institute developed a three-tier rating system of superior, advanced and basic to reflect that even a basic forward collision warning system can provide significant benefits.

About the technology
Front crash prevention is part of a larger group of crash avoidance features spreading through the U.S. vehicle fleet. Marketed under various trade names, system capabilities vary by manufacturer and model, and most are offered as optional add-ons. In general, current front crash prevention systems fall into two categories: forward collision warning and front crash mitigation or prevention with autobrake.

Forward collision warning alerts a driver when the system detects that the vehicle is about to crash into the vehicle in front, but the system doesn't slow down or stop the vehicle. Some forward collision warning systems are combined with an autobrake system to reduce vehicle speeds in a crash, but they aren't designed to avoid the collision. Acura's Collision Mitigation Brake System is an example.

Other autobrake systems can slow down or completely stop the car to avoid some front-to-rear crashes if its driver doesn't brake or steer out of the way in response to a warning. Like the Acura system, these will reduce the speed of those crashes they can't prevent. Cadillac's Automatic Collision Preparation and Volvo's Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection combined with City Safety are examples.

Another design difference involves whether the vehicle ahead is stopped or moving. All of the front crash prevention systems that earn a superior or advanced rating from IIHS are capable of braking for a stopped or slower-moving vehicle. Some other systems are designed to brake for a stopped car ahead only if sensors first detect the car moving before it stops. The BMW 3 series sedan is available with this type of system. It gets a basic rating for front crash prevention.

"The point of autobrake systems is to help inattentive drivers avoid rear-ending another car," Zuby explains. "It's clear that the ability to automatically brake for both stopped and moving vehicles prevents the most crashes."

Test track evaluations
To gauge how autobrake systems from different manufacturers perform, the Institute conducted a
series of five test runs at speeds of 12 and 25 mph on the track at the Vehicle Research Center in
Ruckersville, Va. In each test, an engineer drove the vehicle toward a stationary target designed to simulate the back of a car. Sensors in the test vehicle monitored its lane position, speed, time to collision, braking and other data. The IIHS protocol is similar to the procedure the European New Car Assessment Programme uses to evaluate autobrake systems, which the group plans to begin rating in 2014.

The Institute awards as many as five points based on how much the systems slow the vehicle to avoid hitting the inflatable target or lessen the severity of the impact. In the case of an unavoidable collision, lowering the striking vehicle's speed reduces the crash energy that vehicle structures and restraint systems have to manage. That reduces the amount of damage to both the striking and struck car and minimizes injuries to people traveling in them.

"We decided on 25 mph because development testing indicated that results at this speed were indicative of results at higher speeds - and because higher-speed tests would risk damaging the test vehicles," Zuby says. "As such, we expect crash mitigation benefits at higher speeds as well."

A vehicle must achieve 4 to 5 autobrake points to earn a superior rating and 1 to 3 points for an advanced rating. Vehicles get one additional point if they have a forward collision warning system that meets NHTSA criteria.

The highest-scoring cars and SUVs have autobrake and substantially reduce speeds in both the 12 and 25 mph tests. Most of these systems prevent the 12 mph collision.

Subaru's EyeSight performed best. It helped the Legacy and Outback avoid hitting the target at both test speeds. Next best was Cadillac's Automatic Collision Preparation. The system helped the ATS and SRX avoid hitting the target in the 12 mph test and reduced the ATS's speed by 15 mph and the SRX's speed by 19 mph in the 25 mph test.

"We want to help get the most effective systems in as many vehicles as soon as possible. That means a speed mitigation system like Subaru's EyeSight that can prevent crashes at low and moderate speeds," Zuby says. "At the same time, we want consumers to know that forward collision warning alone can help them avoid crashes, and it's a feature that's available on more models than autobrake."

Besides the BMW 3 series, another midsize model advertised with autobrake also earns a basic rating. In tests of the Infiniti JX SUV, there was only minimal braking at 12 and 25 mph. The Toyota Prius v wagon, which claims to have autobrake, had minimal braking in IIHS tests and currently fails to meet NHTSA criteria for forward collision warning. It doesn't qualify for an IIHS front crash prevention rating.

New criteria for highest safety accolade
The Institute introduced the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award last year to recognize models with the best crash protection. To qualify for the 2014 award, vehicles must earn a basic, advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention. This is in addition to a good or acceptable rating for occupant protection in a small overlap front crash, plus good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.

To qualify for a 2014 TOP SAFETY PICK award, models must earn a good or acceptable rating in the small overlap front test, plus good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. Winners of the 2014 awards will be announced in December.

1963 Harvey Earl Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Mecum Auto Auctions has a hot lot for its October 12 event at the Schaumburg Convention Center outside Chicago - Harley Earl's personalized 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. The beauty was gifted to him by General Motors not just for 30 years of employment, but for establishing the concept car, with the Buick Y-Job, and kicking off the decadent, tail-finned designs that typified American cars in the 1950s.

Earl's Corvette sports a few rarities that set it apart from your average 1963 model, with the obvious tweak being that custom, side-exit exhaust. Mecum claims that only four Corvettes left the factory with that exhaust setup, while Earl's customized gauge cluster and dash also add a considerable amount of value. After all, when was the last time the passenger had their own set of gauges?

Considering the provenance of this Chevy, the fact that it's a member of the Corvette Hall of Fame shouldn't come as a shock. The freshly restored offering is lot S110, and will cross the block on Saturday, October 12, at the Schaumburg Convention Center. Read more about the car and the auction below.

Mecum Will Offer One-Of-A-Kind Personal Driver Of Corvette's Original Designer Harley J. Earl Corvette will Cross Mecum's Block at Chicago Auction Oct. 10-12 1963 Harley J. Earl Corvette (Lot S110)

Walworth, WI - September 24, 2013 -- The factory-styling Sting Ray gifted to the father of the Corvette â€" Harley J. Earl â€" will cross the block at Mecum's Chicago auction this Oct. 10-12 at the Schaumburg Convention Center. Among an anticipated 1,000-car lineup, this car stands out as the personal driver of GM's head designer who was one of the most significant innovators in the history of the American automobile.

This 1963 Corvette Convertible (Lot S110), Shop Order 10323, is a one-of-a-kind build given directly from General Motors to the man often credited for introducing design and color to the American automobile industry. Harley J. Earl joined GM in 1928 and became head of the General Motors Design team, retiring in 1958. His designs in the '50s at the Motorama tours are what brought the Corvette to the attention of the American public and to the world.

Gifted to Earl for his lifetime of contributions to General Motors, he kept the Metallic Blue car at his home in Palm Beach, Florida, for use as his personal driver. He enjoyed the Corvette for two years, even using it as the parade car at the Daytona 500 in 1965 when he served as Grand Marshall. The trophy given to the winner of the Daytona 500 remains his namesake to this day, dubbed "The Harley J. Earl Trophy."

One of only four Corvettes ever built with the custom side exhaust system, the car features a custom gauge and dash treatment unique to S.O.10323. As a longtime member of the Corvette Hall of Fame, this car is a mainstay of the Bloomington Gold Special Collection having been invited more than any other Corvette in existence. Confirmed by GM as the very car custom built and gifted to Earl, the car has since been restored to the specifications as when it arrived in Earl's driveway.

The historically significant, one-of-a-kind Harley J. Earl Corvette will cross the block on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Chicagoland's only collector and classic car auction.

Doors to the Mecum Chicago auction will open each day at 8 a.m. Portions of all three days will be broadcast live on Discovery's Velocity Network in addition to the live stream of the entire auction presented by Mecum at www.mecum.com. Ford makes updates to Power Stroke diesel V8, strengthens the F-450 and makes cosmetic changes to the King Ranch Edition.

Ford is giving its F-Series Super Duty trucks some upgrades for 2015, and we're happy to say that one of them is an improved Power Stroke diesel V8. Also, Ford is strengthening the top-of-the-line F-450 to handle more abuse. And if wild west-style luxury is your thing, the automaker has performed minor cosmetic updates to its King Ranch Edition trucks, as well.

The turbocharged 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 is currently rated at 400 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque, and Ford only tells us the new and improved Power Stroke can "produce power beyond today's" engine. What, then, did Ford actually improve upon? First, the Blue Oval swapped in a new, larger turbocharger. The new Garrett GT37 turbine unit is 72.5 millimeters in diameter, eclipsing the old GT32's 64-mm diameter piece. Ford states output increases with the new turbo setup, but since the new turbocharger operates at a lower peak pressure than the old one, the automaker was able to eliminate the wastegate system and reduce the engine's complexity. Ford even redesigned the turbo's oil and cooling lines to make the powerplant simpler. A byproduct of the larger turbo is better engine exhaust braking, which is controlled manually by a button on the dashboard.

Ford claims the upgraded diesel engine is more powerful, more robust, more efficient and more refined than before.

The Power Stroke also gets a new high-pressure fuel pump and injectors that deliver more fuel and improve combustion. To help the engine cope with the added power, it gets a new five-layer head gasket, a new four-layer exhaust-manifold gasket, material added for durability to the cylinder heads, valvetrain and exhaust manifold, stronger piston assemblies and a stronger crankshaft. The six-speed automatic transmission is equipped with a stronger torque converter. All in, Ford claims the upgraded diesel engine is more powerful, more robust, more efficient and more refined than before. But we're still waiting on those horsepower and torque figures.

The F-450 is the biggest and most robust of Ford's Super Duty trucks, and for 2015 it has been revised to better handle its fierce towing capability. Along with a strengthened frame, other upgraded components include rear driveline U-joints, rear leaf springs, front and rear antiroll bars, shocks and new commercial-grade 19.5-inch wheels. Ford's biggest pickup truck also gets its own engine calibration for the Power Stroke diesel.

The Super Duty King Ranch Edition F-Series remains largely the same, except for some cosmetic updates. The "Running W" emblem that adorns King Ranch trucks - and the ranch that inspires them - has received extra attention for 2015. The W is cut out and stitched into the seat backs and center console in a way that makes the emblem look branded. Ford also says that a "richer, lighter shade of Mesa leather" is used for the seats, center console lid, armrests and steering wheel, while the exterior gets a new, darker shade of Caribou paint for the wheel lips, bumpers and lower body.

For more detailed information on Ford's plans for 2015 F-Series Super Duty trucks, read over the press release below. We'll post revised power figures for the improved Power Stroke engine as soon as we get them, so stay tuned.

2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty Features Improved Power Stroke Diesel, Stronger F-450, Revamped King Ranch Edition

- Engineering improvements boost the performance, capability and durability of the Ford-designed and Ford-built 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 turbo diesel engine

- Upgraded 2015 Ford F-450 pickup offers more towing capability than ever

- 2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty King Ranch restyled, combining authentic Texas heritage with modern luxury

DALLAS, Sept. 26, 2013 â€" Ford, America's truck leader, introduces the 2015 F-Series Super Duty lineup today at State Fair of Texas, featuring a second-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 turbo diesel engine; increased towing capabilities; and a refreshed, Texas-inspired King Ranch model.

"Truck leadership means never resting, and the Super Duty team has been tireless in finding ways to improve the industry's most popular heavy-duty pickups," said Joe Hinrichs, executive vice president and president of The Americas, Ford Motor Company. "Super Duty diesel customers will benefit from improved performance and features backed by outstanding Built Ford Tough durability."

Since the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel debuted in 2011, Ford engineers have listened to customers and continued to examine each component of the engine to develop improved performance.

Ford is the only heavy-duty pickup truck manufacturer that designs and builds its own diesel engine and transmission combination, ensuring the powertrain will work seamlessly with all chassis components and vehicle calibrations â€" from concept to execution. This approach also enables Ford engineers to optimize the vehicle's performance across the entire lineup.

A key Ford innovation on the original 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel was its so-called reverse-flow layout. The advanced design places the exhaust inside the engine's V-shape while the air intake is positioned on the outside of the V. This segment-exclusive design naturally improves a variety of attributes:

- Shorter airflow from the exhaust system to the turbocharger sitting between the engine's cylinder banks improves turbo responsiveness â€" key to providing torque quickly to truck customers when they need it most
- Positioning the turbo inside the engine's valley helps isolate the engine's hottest temperatures, improving performance and efficiency, while also reducing noise, vibration and harshness

Ford engineers built upon the many benefits of this design as they upgraded the Power Stroke. One improvement is a larger GT37 turbocharger that replaces the previous GT32 model, enabling more airflow to the engine to produce more power beyond today's 400 horsepower and 800 lb.-ft. of torque.

Key components of the new GT37 turbocharger
The GT37 features a single, larger 88-millimeter compressor wheel that replaces the GT32's dual-sided compressor design. The compressor forces air into the engine's cylinders to improve performance â€" especially at high altitude where the air is thinner than at sea level. The turbine size is increased to 72.5 millimeters from 64 millimeters, so exhaust gases have a larger surface area to spin the turbo, providing extra power. The wastegate and the wastegate controls are eliminated, because the turbo operates at lower peak pressures than the GT32.

"The original designers of the current Power Stroke V8 diesel forecasted needs for higher output. This facilitated the larger turbocharger, increasing airflow and creating more power," said David Ives, Power Stroke technical specialist. "We've dramatically improved performance while reducing overall engine complexity by focusing on the turbo system."

A further benefit of the larger turbo is improved engine exhaust braking, manually controlled by a push-button switch on the dashboard. Extra braking power helps reduce wear and tear on wheel brakes and requires less manual brake application from the driver, especially on downhill grades.

Fuel system improvements
Turbo changes drove improvements to the fuel delivery system, specifically a new high-pressure fuel pump and fuel injectors. The pump's cam stroke is increased to deliver more fuel when desired for increased power. All-new injector tips better atomize the fuel, resulting in improved combustion that enables lower noise, vibration and harshness. Other benefits include cleaner emissions and a reduction in the buildup of fuel deposits on the valves over time.

In addition, a new exhaust temperature sensor enables more accurate fuel control, which improves both durability and driveability â€" especially when towing â€" and helps the customer drive the Power Stroke diesel to its maximum capability.

Even though the fuel system delivers extra fuel as needed to provide more power, other efficiency improvements ensure 2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup customers see similar performance to today's best-in-class fuel economy.

Further enhancements to Ford Power Stroke diesel include:
- Ford-designed and -engineered 6R140 TorqShift® six-speed transmission uses a new torque converter to manage increased horsepower and torque
- New polymer coating on main bearings for improved wear-and-tear durability and lower friction
- Improved crankshaft fillet design â€" the transition point between the crankshaft's journals â€" to increase crankshaft power carrying capability
- Increased crankshaft damper weight to reduce rotating forces on the crankshaft when the engine is performing at peak power levels
- New five-layer head gasket to handle wider range of engine firing pressures resulting from more powerful engine performance
- Added material to the engine's cylinder heads, exhaust manifold and valvetrain to handle increased power levels
- Redesigned turbo oil and cooling lines to improve sealing
- Piston assembly upgrades to increase load-bearing capability
- New four-layer exhaust manifold gasket for improved durability

2015 Ford F-450 upgrades
The 2015 Ford F-450 tops the F-Series Super Duty pickup truck lineup with maximum towing and hauling capability. Changes for 2015 include a strengthened frame, suspension, new commercial-grade 19.5-inch wheels and tires, and core work components shared with F-Series Super Duty chassis cab models.

Just as the next-generation Power Stroke engine reflects changes that improve power while maintaining durability, the Super Duty engineering team took specific actions to bolster key F-450 components to improve towing capability, including:

- Upgraded rear driveline U-joints
- Upgraded suspension components, including new rear leaf springs, front and rear stabilizer bars and shocks
- Increased fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailer capacity
- Stronger steering gears and steering linkages
- Larger brakes shared with Super Duty chassis cab models, including wheel brakes, parking brake and new antilock brake calibration
- F-450-specific Power Stroke diesel engine calibration

King Ranch expresses authentic, rugged luxury
The reinvigorated update to the 2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty King Ranch edition is inspired by the place where American ranching was born.

"King Ranch is an American original with a proud heritage of hard work that defines the American ranching lifestyle," said Doug Scott, Ford Truck group marketing manager. "The 2015 Ford Super Duty King Ranch seamlessly combines elements of Texas-inspired luxury and Ford capability."

As part of the Ford Truck commitment to continuous improvement, the F-Series design team traveled to King Ranch, founded in 1853, for fresh perspective and inspiration from the 825,000-acre working ranch, which is bigger than the state of Rhode Island.

"What really stood out is how prominent the 'Running W' is, and how it defines and unifies the ranch," said Barb Whalen, Ford color and material design manager. "Similarly, we wanted that brand to define the new Super Duty King Ranch."

On the new Super Duty King Ranch, the Running W â€" the brand used on cattle raised at the ranch â€" provides a focal point for the interior. It is cut out and stitched to make the seat backs and center console appear to have been branded.

A lighter, richer shade of Mesa leather trims the seats, center console lid, armrests and steering wheel.

Exterior updates include the new, darker Caribou paint for the wheel lip moldings, bumpers and lower body. The bed rail caps, bumper caps and running boards are executed in black. The Running W brings focus to the wheel caps as well.

"Through premium materials and thoughtful execution, we strived to make the 2015 Ford Super Duty King Ranch have a look and a feel as authentic as the ranch itself," said Scott.

We're not sure which spec we're most intrigued by for the new BMW M3 and M4: the twin-turbo six-cylinder with 430 horsepower and "far beyond" 369 pound-feet of torque, the 3,300-pound curb weight or the standard six-speed manual transmission with automatic throttle blipping on downshifts. That engine is fitted with both Valvetronic and Double-Vanos, twin-wire arc-spray coating in the cylinders instead of liners to save weight, a track-ready cooling system with additional radiators, a forged crankshaft, dry-sump lubrication and a magnesium oil sump. BMW says its "high revving concept" has a redline beyond 7,500 rpm.

In the M4, it will be pulling a coupe with "a weight of just under 1,500 kilograms," which is 3,300 pounds to you and me. That number is said to include no driver and 90 percent fuel, but we're still waiting on the exact number and specs. BMW says it's "around 80 kilograms lighter than a comparably equipped predecessor model," putting the power-to-weight ratio at something like 7.68 pounds per horsepower at the same time as it helps reduce fuel consumption by 25 percent. The use of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) for the roof, drive shaft (with no center bearing), trunk and front strut brace, and forged aluminum for suspension components, have aided in the weight loss. This time around, the sedan - the M3 - will also get a CFRP roof.

The default option will be a six-speed manual.

And it appears we'll have to take back what we said about it not getting a stick, since the default option will be a six-speed manual that, at 26.4 pounds, is lighter than the previous model thanks in part to carbon fiber friction linings in the synchronizer rings. The optional transmission will be a seven-speed M DCT with launch control.

There's so much more to know about - like the electronic power steering with three settings and the electronic, infinitely variable M differential - that you can find out in the press release below, or head over to Bimmerpost for detailed comparisons with previous M3 models. There's also a video below of BMW DTM drivers Bruno Spengler and Timo Glock testing the new M wares at the Nürburgring. We imagine we'll be hearing a lot more about all of this before they both debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

1. The new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe:
Innovative engine technology and a focus on lightweight design.

The launch of the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe sees BMW M GmbH revealing an all-new interpretation of the high-performance sports car â€" and carrying the BMW M philosophy over into the fifth generation of the M3. More than 40,000 examples of the fourth-generation BMW M3 Coupe were built, and now the BMW M4 Coupe is poised to continue this history of success. The "M4" badge is a reference to the model series that provides the basis for the new M model. And for the first time, the Coupe will be introduced at the same time as the four-door variant, which logic dictates will be christened the BMW M3.

"Four generations of the BMW M3 have blended motor sport genes and uncompromised everyday usability within an emotionally rich overall concept;" explains Dr Friedrich Nitschke, President BMW M GmbH. "The BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe represent an ongoing commitment to this philosophy. The engine is the heart of every M model, and the example fitted in the two new cars combines the virtues of a high-revving naturally aspirated unit with the strengths of turbocharger technology. An all-embracing lightweight design concept keeps the cars' weight to just under 1,500 kilograms. The BMW M3 and BMW M4 take motor sport technology from the track to the road, and thousands of laps of the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife â€" the world's most demanding race track â€" have readied the new models for that transition. Meticulous and passion-fuelled development work has underpinned the creation of two high-performance sports cars that set new standards in terms of overall concept, precision and agility."

The high-revving six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology newly developed for the new BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe produces maximum output of approximately 430 hp. Its peak torque soars far beyond 500 Newton metres (369 lb-ft), outstripping the figures recorded by the outgoing BMW M3 by well over 30 per cent. And yet the engine also achieves a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions of around 25 per cent. The weight of the cars has been reduced to just under 1,500 kilograms, which helps to ensure outstanding driving dynamics and exceptional efficiency.

2. The balance of the overall concept:
A blend of elements working in perfect harmony delivers outstanding performance, precision and agility.

The new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe share a low-slung and broad-set, yet finely balanced, stance on the road, highlighting the emphasis on performance capability in the emotional development of M design. Large air intakes at the front end, exposed carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) components and the diffuser at the muscular rear end are far from mere design flourishes; they also fulfil functional roles in terms of aerodynamics, cooling and weight saving.

Numerous aerodynamics measures integrated into all areas of the body.
The aerodynamics concept of BMW M GmbH models has always been one of the key elements in their development. The engineers need to channel the air around the car to create the best possible platform for dynamic excellence, while also ensuring the engine, powertrain and brakes receive the requisite cooling given the significant loads they are operating under. But at the same time, the cars should also have a good Cd â€" an indicator of impressive efficiency at higher speeds, in particular.

Details such as the powerfully formed front apron, smooth underbody and clearly defined Gurney spoiler lip at the rear of the M3 Sedan (or integrated spoiler lip at the rear of the BMW M4 Coupe) reduce lift by an equal degree at the front and rear axle and produce optimum handling attributes. These examples underline in familiar fashion the success of M engineers in reconciling the requirements of everyday use with the demands of action on the race track. Elements like the Air Curtain and M gills with integrated Air Breather rearwards of the front wheels minimise turbulence in the front wheel arches. And, together with the smoothly sculpted exterior mirrors, they are also highly distinctive design features of the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe.

Sophisticated cooling concept for maximum performance.
The exceptional performance potential of the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe places extremely exacting demands on temperature management in the engine and peripheral assemblies. In order to ensure optimum operating temperatures in everyday use, on short journeys around town and on the race track, the BMW M GmbH engineers have developed an extremely effective cooling system. For example, alongside the two ultra-dynamic turbocharger units, the air intake system of the six-cylinder engine also includes an indirect intercooler to cool the intake air, maximising charge pressure and engine output. As well as a main radiator, the track-ready cooling concept also comprises additional radiators for the high- and low-temperature water circuits, turbocharger and transmission oil. These ensure a consistent temperature balance and therefore unrestricted performance during hard driving. An additional electric coolant pump cools the turbocharger bearing mounts when the car is stationary.

The powertrain gains from a wide variety of motor sport technologies.
The many years of experience in motor sport clocked up by the BMW M engineers also make their presence felt in the construction of the powertrain for the new BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe. For example, the engine's impressive torque is sent on its way by a forged crankshaft with high torsional rigidity, whose low weight also allows a significant reduction in rotating mass. The crankshaft therefore helps to optimise the engine's responsiveness and acceleration and makes an important contribution to its high-revving character.

The engine sends its power to the wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. This gearbox is significantly more compact than its predecessor and 12 kilograms lighter, allowing it to assist the car's optimum â€" virtually 50:50 â€" weight distribution. As a means of increasing shift comfort, the manual gearbox uses innovative new carbon friction linings in its synchroniser rings. Dry sump lubrication provides an efficient supply of oil to all parts of the gearbox. The new gearbox also works a lot more quietly than before and blips the throttle on downshifts â€" previously a feature reserved for the M Double Clutch Transmission. This engagement speed control function helps to enhance stability and was originally developed by motor sport engineers.

Seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Launch Control.
The optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with DriveLogic takes a very special route to combining the apparently conflicting values of absolute sports performance and comfort. As well as changing gear automatically, in manual mode the transmission enables ultra-fast gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power. The integrated Launch Control function ensures optimum sprinting performance off the line, producing acceleration figures that would be out of range with the manual gearbox. The M Double Clutch Transmission also offers drivers extra functions, such as selectable modes which make the BMW M3 and BMW M4 more comfortable, easier on fuel or even sportier. The extra gear over the manual gearbox allows more tightly spaced ratios â€" and delivers the positive effects on performance and efficiency you would expect as a result.

The material properties of carbon have allowed the engineers to follow a fundamentally new approach in the manufacture of the drive shaft. This component feeds the engine's torque from the gearbox to the rear differential and works under extremely heavy loads â€" especially in high-performance vehicles. The impressive stiffness and low weight of CFRP as a material allow the drive shaft to be constructed as a single-piece unit with no centre bearing. As well as a weight saving of 40 per cent over its predecessor, this leads to a reduction in rotating masses and, in turn, to sharper responses to movements of the accelerator, combined with enhanced dynamics.

Another feature that adds fresh polish to the dynamic repertoire of the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe is the Active M Differential. Unlike the manual system used by the outgoing BMW M3, here an electric actuator constantly varies the locking effect, as required. That enables better traction, the adjustability of the car is improved, and understeer coming out of corners is dialled out to impressive effect. M Dynamic Mode â€" a subfunction of the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system â€" quenches the thirst of enthusiastic drivers for keen dynamics. While DSC intervenes as required to counteract understeer and oversteer, M Dynamic Mode allows greater wheel slip and therefore easy drifting. Owners with a taste for sporty and dynamic driving will appreciate this breadth to the cars' handling, although DSC will still step in if the car ventures over the limits â€" unless it is switched off completely. Whichever setting the driver chooses, he or she remains responsible for the car's stability.

Aluminium suspension elements ensure sharper dynamics.
The core expertise of BMW M GmbH resides in creating cars that offer impressive steering precision, on-the-limit adjustability, agility and driving feeling, together with unbeatable traction and outstanding directional stability â€" all without neglecting everyday usability. In order to blend these attributes with the significantly increased performance capability of the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe, the axles of the outgoing BMW M3 have undergone further development and all relevant components have been newly designed or constructed.

Here again, low weight and a high level of structural rigidity are essential ingredients in ensuring the cars provide an ultra-dynamic driving experience. In the double-joint spring strut front axle alone, the use of a lightweight aluminium construction for components such as control arms, wheel carriers and axle subframes saves five kilograms over a conventional steel design.

Play-free ball joints and elastomer bearings developed specially for the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe ensure an optimum and direct transfer of forces both laterally and longitudinally. An aluminium stiffening plate, CFRP front strut brace and additional bolted joints between the axle subframe and the body sills all help to increase the rigidity of the front structure.

Also lighter than the construction in the outgoing BMW M3 is the new five- link rear axle. All the control arms and wheel carriers are manufactured using forged aluminium, which reduces the unsprung masses of the wheel-locating components by around three kilograms compared with the previous model generation. The rigid connection between the rear axle subframe and the body â€" without the use of elastic rubber elements â€" is borrowed from motor sport and serves to further improve wheel location and therefore directional stability.

The development of the tyres for the cars was incorporated from the outset into the construction process for the axles. For high-performance sports cars like the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe, in particular, steering feel and precision are the foremost considerations in the development of tyres for the front axle, alongside lateral stability and braking forces. At the rear axle, meanwhile, traction, lateral stability and directional stability take centre stage. For this reason, both cars will leave the factory on low-weight forged wheels with mixed-size tyres. The specially developed forged wheels make a significant contribution to the reduction in the cars' unsprung masses and, in turn, to the optimisation of dynamic qualities and efficiency.

Electric Power Steering with three settings.
The electromechanical steering system used in the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe is a new development from BMW M GmbH. It has been tuned specially to assist the cause of dynamic driving and offers the gifts of direct steering feeling and precise feedback. The integrated Servotronic function electronically adjusts the level of steering assistance according to the car's speed, providing optimum steering characteristics at all speeds. The steering for the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe also offers the driver three steering characteristics as standard, which can be selected at the touch of a button. COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes allow the level of steering assistance to be adapted to suit the situation at hand and the driver's personal tastes.

The optional Adaptive M suspension likewise comes with COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes, enabling the driver to choose between a more comfortable damper setting for motorway driving, for example, a stiffer set-up for dynamic driving on country roads, and a third option that minimises wheel movements and maximises dynamic performance for use on the track.

With their supreme dynamic attributes in mind, the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe also come as standard with BMW M compound brakes boasting impressive feel, outstanding stopping power and high resistance to fade. Far lighter than conventional equivalents, these brakes contribute to a substantial reduction in unsprung masses and therefore help to enhance dynamic performance. Even lighter BMW M carbon ceramic brakes can also be specified as an option, their further optimised performance attributes equipping them even more effectively for track use.

3. New six-cylinder in-line engine:
High-revving, turbocharged engine combines the best of both worlds.

The new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe from BMW M GmbH see a return to a six-in-line engine configuration, as used on the second and third generations of this iconic sports car. The new turbocharged unit, which can develop more than 7,500 rpm, combines the best of both worlds â€" on the one hand a high-revving design for instant response, linear power delivery over a wide engine speed range and an unmistakable and characterful engine note, and on the other hand BMW TwinPower Turbo technology for maximised torque over a broad rpm range. A further hallmark of this engine is its outstanding efficiency.

The new engine sees a slight power upgrade over the previous V8 to approximately 430 hp, while peak torque has been increased by well over 30 per cent to substantially more than 500 Newton metres, and is maintained over a very wide rev band. The new powerplant also boasts excellent fuel consumption, with an improvement of more than 25 per cent over the previous model's figures, while emissions are already EU6-compliant.

The BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology comprises two mono-scroll turbochargers, High Precision Direct Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-VANOS seamlessly variable camshaft timing. The variable valve and camshaft timing provide fully variable control of intake valve lift. This allows the engine to deliver its power smoothly and efficiently, resulting in lower fuel consumption and emissions. At the same time, throttle response is even sharper than before.

The six-cylinder engine features a closed-deck crankcase design, which increases rigidity and allows cylinder pressures to be increased for maximised power output. And instead of liners, the cylinder bores feature a twin-wire arc-sprayed coating, which results in a significant reduction in engine weight.

A further technical highlight is the forged, torsionally rigid crankshaft which, as well as providing increased torque-carrying capacity, is also lighter in weight. Its reduced rotating masses also improve throttle response and acceleration.

Track-ready cooling system and engine oil supply for outstanding performance.
The exceptional performance of the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe also demands an exceptionally sophisticated thermal management system for the engine and ancillary units. To ensure optimal operating temperatures both in short everyday trips around town and also when the vehicle is being driven flat out on the track, the M GmbH engineers developed a highly efficient cooling system, comprising a main radiator plus additional radiators for the high- and low-temperature circuits, turbocharger and transmission, while a temperature-stabilising electric water pump ensures that the engine can develop its full performance at all times.

The engine oil supply system, too, reflects the extensive motor sport experience of BMW M GmbH. The low-weight magnesium oil sump, for example, features a special cover to limit movement of the oil under the effects of strong dynamic lateral acceleration. Under extreme longitudinal acceleration and deceleration, an oil extraction pump and a sophisticated oil return system situated close to the turbocharger likewise help to maintain uninterrupted oil circulation. Oil is therefore supplied continuously to all engine components in all driving situations â€" whether in everyday motoring or during hard driving on the track.

An engine sound in keeping with the motor sport-level performance of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 is provided by an innovative flap arrangement in the twin-pipe exhaust system. The electrically controlled flaps just before the rear silencer minimise exhaust back-pressure and produce a BMW M sound which is striking and unmistakable over the entire engine speed range, as well as giving precise feedback on engine load.

Intelligent lightweight design was a top priority in the development of the BMW M3 and BMW M4. The goal was to minimise kerb weight in order to give both models outstanding driving dynamics and exemplary efficiency. These measures have delivered impressive results. The kerb weight of the BMW M4 has been reduced to less than 1,500 kilograms, which means the new model is now around 80 kilograms lighter than a comparably equipped predecessor model â€" with benefits for driving dynamics and fuel consumption as well.

BMW M3 Sedan also gets CFRP roof for first the time.
On the outgoing models, the CFRP roof was confined to the Coupe version. Now, for the first time, the four-door BMW M3 will also include this striking design and functional feature. The CFRP roof brings weight savings of five kilograms in the case of the BMW M3 Sedan and more than six in the case of the BMW M4 Coupe. It also lowers the vehicle's centre of gravity, which has a positive impact on driving dynamics.

On the M4 Coupe, the contoured roofline with the central Gurney bubble continues into the boot lid, and emphasises the even sportier personality of the new model. The newly developed boot lid of this model not only provides extremely effective tail end styling but at the same time its geometry is precisely tailored for optimised aerodynamics, while the use of carbon fibre and plastics provides additional weight savings.

The new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe also feature a CFRP propeller shaft. CFRP's high rigidity and low weight mean that the drive shaft can be produced as a single-piece component without a centre bearing. This provides 40 per cent weight savings over the previous model, and the reduction in rotating masses results in sharper throttle response. The use of carbon in these models is a reminder that BMW is a global leader in high- strength, lightweight CFRP construction, and that it was BMW who brought out the first mass-production vehicle with a body consisting entirely of this material â€" the innovative BMW i3.

The CFRP strut brace in the engine compartment is a further example of how all weight-saving measures on these vehicles have also been tailored to the improvement of driving dynamics. Weighing only 1.5 kilograms, the strut brace offers superior rigidity to a comparable aluminium component, and plays a key part in the excellent steering response and precision of both vehicles.

5. DTM support for the development process:
Testing at the Nürburgring with Bruno Spengler and Timo Glock.

In the development of the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe, the BMW M engineers could count not only on track-honed technologies, but also on the driving talent of experienced racers. For example, BMW works drivers Bruno Spengler and Timo Glock took part in extensive testing and set- up runs on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit, focusing on assessment of the cars' suspension, tyres and all elements of the powertrain. After taking the prototypes for a run-out over the legendary and highly demanding circuit, the two professional racing drivers were able to give the BMW M development team some valuable feedback.

"I'm proud to have made a contribution to the set-up work on these two cars," explained reigning DTM champion Spengler. "The development work may not be totally completed yet, but the driving experience is already sensational. The suspension has a very sporty set-up, the feedback from the front axle is extremely direct and the grip at the rear axle is phenomenal. The engine is impressive, too. The power is right there, even at low rpm, and you can sense that you'll be able to access the output and torque over an extremely wide rev band. I'm looking forward to driving the cars again, but I'm even more excited about driving my first laps in a BMW M4 DTM."

Timo Glock was similarly impressed: "These two cars are capable of generating quite incredible centrifugal forces," reported the ex-Formula One driver.
