Official: Award for auto ads announced, to be presented in Detroit [w/videos]

chrysler 200 commercial

Last year, The One Club presented a list of the top 10 commercials from the last 25 years at the Detroit Auto Show. Featuring instantly recognizable spots from Chrysler, Volkswagen, Honda, Jeep and more, the list (presented for your viewing pleasure below) makes for compelling viewing even today.

In fact, last year's list and event were popular enough that The One Club has struck a deal with Detroit show organizers to formalize their Automobile Advertising of the Year Award. The Award will seek to highlight excellent examples in four categories: print & outdoor, television & video, interactive and experiential. The jury for the awards will consist of advertising creative types and automotive journalists (I'm still waiting for my emailed invitation, One Club), and the ceremony will take place on January 14 in the hallowed halls of Cobo.

The One Show Launches Automobile Advertising of the Year Award

The One Club Partners with Detroit's North American International Auto Show

New York, NY (October 09, 2013) - The One Club (www.oneclub.org), producers of the prestigious One Show Awards, announced today the launch of the Automobile Advertising of the Year Award. Partnering with the North American International Auto Show (www.naias.com) in Detroit, The One Club will recognize creative excellence in four categories: print & outdoor, television & video, interactive and experiential.

The One Club partnered with the Detroit show to create the new auto award following a successful event at least year's auto show honoring the top 10 automobile commercials from the past 25 years - an event that was featured in major media outlets and generated over 200 million media impressions.

"After the enormous success of last year's event, we knew that there was an opportunity to build something bigger, and our partners at the NAIAS have given us their support," said Yash Egami, Director of Content at The One Club and producer of the Automobile Advertising of the Year Award. "NAIAS is the perfect venue to celebrate the best creative from automotive brands and advertising agencies."

This year's winners will be presented on-stage at a special event during the NAIAS Press Preview on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Cobo Center in Detroit. An esteemed panel of jurors consisting of some of the top creative directors in the ad industry and automotive journalists will judge work. Deadline for submission is November 1, 2013 at automobile.oneclub.org. It is free to enter.

"We're pleased to welcome back The One Club to NAIAS, and look forward to the premiere of the Automobile Advertising of the Year Award, which will provide a great opportunity to show the critical relationship and connectedness of both industries," said NAIAS Chairman Bob Shuman.

With an estimated 5,000 journalists from around the world and 800,000 people attending as well as the CEOs of the major automobile brands, NAIAS is one of the top auto shows in the world.
